The International Cricket Council (ICC) has delivered a major setback to the England Cricket Team following their crushing defeat in the second Test against New Zealand Cricket Team, handing out a heavy 12-point deduction in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

The punishment comes after England were found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate, finishing the match 12 overs short of the required target—a costly error that has significantly damaged their position in the WTC table.

Under the leadership of Joe Root, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss. However, the decision backfired as New Zealand posted a commanding 391 runs in their first innings.

England responded with 291 runs, but still conceded a 100-run lead, putting themselves under pressure early in the match.

New Zealand continued their dominance in the second innings, scoring 362 runs, setting a daunting target of 463 runs for the hosts.

England’s batting lineup collapsed under pressure and were eventually bowled out for 209, resulting in a heavy 253-run defeat.
