Haiwaan Teaser: Saif Ali Khan Is Blind, Akshay Kumar Looks Sinister But Who Is the Real “Haiwaan”?

The first teaser of Haiwaan has arrived, and it wastes little time in creating an unsettling question: who is the hero, and who is the “Haiwaan”?

Starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, the upcoming thriller is directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan. Instead of revealing the story, the teaser chooses shadows, silence and carefully placed glimpses of its characters to build an atmosphere of suspicion.

At the centre of the mystery are Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, whose characters appear to be connected by something far darker than an ordinary conflict. Saif is shown portraying a visually impaired man, moving with the help of a walking stick. At the same time, Akshay’s character appears to be watching him closely, immediately raising questions about his intentions.

The teaser deliberately keeps their faces, motivations and relationship partly hidden. That restraint works in the film’s favour, because every brief shot seems designed to make viewers wonder what is actually happening behind the scenes.

Akshay, in particular, appears to be stepping into a considerably darker space. Recent promotional material around the film has hinted that his character is not merely grey but genuinely sinister, making Haiwaan a notable departure from the lighter collaborations audiences have previously associated with Akshay and Priyadarshan.

The film also features Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar in important roles. Their presence adds further weight to an ensemble that appears to be part of a larger mystery, although the teaser reveals very little about how their characters fit into the story.

The promotional campaign has clearly been built around curiosity. Earlier, Akshay Kumar teased the project with the line, “Bahut Hasaa Liya. Ab Kal Se Haiwaniyat Shuru,” signalling a much darker turn from his previous association with Priyadarshan.

The mystery surrounding the film has also been strengthened by its first-look campaign, with the makers describing the world of Haiwaan as dark, intense and unsettling. The film marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan after 18 years; the two actors were last seen together in Tashan in 2008.

Interestingly, Haiwaan is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 11, 2026, giving the makers several weeks to build anticipation around the unanswered questions introduced by the teaser.

For now, the biggest question remains deliberately unanswered: is Saif Ali Khan’s seemingly vulnerable character really the one in danger, or is Akshay Kumar’s sinister presence hiding an even bigger secret?

And that may be exactly what Priyadarshan wants audiences to keep guessing until the film reaches theatres.
