‘Trouble Inside Team India?’ Gautam Gambhir Faces Fresh Questions as Coach Exit Reports and Dressing Room Rift Claims Surface
Reports of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate’s possible departure, alleged communication gaps with Virat Kohli, and claims of differing views between Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar have put India’s coaching setup under the spotlight.
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has found himself at the centre of growing speculation after a series of reports suggested uncertainty within the national team’s coaching structure.
The latest developments include reports of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate considering an exit, claims of limited interaction between Virat Kohli and Gambhir, and suggestions of differing approaches between the head coach and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
While none of these reports have been officially confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), they have sparked widespread discussion across the cricketing fraternity.
Assistant Coach’s Future in Doubt
According to reports, Ryan ten Doeschate is reportedly unhappy after not receiving the fielding coach role he was allegedly promised when joining the Indian team in 2024.

The former Netherlands international is said to be considering stepping away from the support staff, a move that could force the BCCI to rethink the composition of Gambhir’s coaching team ahead of several crucial international assignments.
However, there has been no official statement from either ten Doeschate or the BCCI regarding the matter.
Reports Highlight Communication Concerns
Adding to the speculation are reports suggesting that Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have maintained limited interaction during the ongoing tour.
The reports have fuelled debate over communication within the dressing room, with some former cricketers reportedly questioning whether greater transparency is needed between the coaching staff and senior players.
At the same time, there has been no public indication from either Kohli or Gambhir confirming any disagreement, and both continue to remain focused on Team India’s campaign.
Claims of Different Approaches with Selectors
Another talking point has emerged around the relationship between Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik recently suggested that there may be philosophical differences in their approach to team building.
According to Karthik, Gambhir is believed to prioritise immediate results, while the selection committee may be more focused on preparing a squad for the long term, particularly with the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup in mind.
These differing priorities, if accurate, could naturally lead to contrasting opinions during squad selection discussions.
BCCI Yet to Address Speculation
Despite the growing conversation, the BCCI has not issued any official clarification regarding the reported developments.
As India continues its international commitments, maintaining stability within the coaching setup will remain an important objective.
Whether the recent reports represent temporary speculation or point towards broader changes behind the scenes is likely to become clearer in the coming weeks.
For now, Gautam Gambhir and the Indian team remain focused on delivering results on the field, even as discussions surrounding the coaching environment continue off it.
