‘I’d Be Quite Disappointed…’: Donald Trump Reacts to Reports of China Sending Weapons to Iran, Hints at Xi Jinping Meeting

US President Donald Trump has expressed surprise over reports claiming China could supply weapons to Iran, saying he would be “quite disappointed” if the allegations prove to be true.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping had personally assured him that Beijing would not become involved in the Iran conflict, making the latest reports unexpected.

Trump: “That Was Surprising”

Reacting to media reports about a possible Chinese arms shipment to Iran, Trump said he did not expect such a move from Beijing.”That was surprising. Things like that happen, but that would be surprising,” Trump said.

The US President added that Xi had strongly indicated China would stay out of the conflict.”He told me very strongly he wouldn’t partake, but he knows I’d be quite disappointed,” Trump said.

Trump also revealed that Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States in September, saying the two leaders are likely to meet during the proposed summit.

Report Claims Iran Could Receive Chinese Missiles

Trump’s remarks came after a Reuters report claimed that Iran is expected to receive a shipment of around 400 Chinese-made shoulder-fired missiles in a deal reportedly valued between $60 million and $70 million.

According to the report, the agreement was signed with Zhongqing Baoshang International Investment, with the shipment allegedly expected to transit through Pakistan before reaching Iran.

Neither the Chinese government nor Iranian authorities have publicly confirmed the reported deal.

Trump Had Earlier Raised Similar Concerns

This is not the first time Trump has voiced concerns about possible Chinese military support for Iran.

During the recent tensions involving Iran, the US President had previously questioned whether Beijing was supplying weapons to Tehran. According to Trump, Xi later responded in a letter, assuring him that China was not providing arms to Iran.

The latest reports, however, have once again put the issue in the spotlight.

Fresh Challenge for US-China Relations

The development could further complicate already strained relations between Washington and Beijing.

The United States has previously warned that countries supplying weapons to Iran could face significant economic consequences, including a proposed 50% tariff on their exports to the US.

Analysts believe any confirmed military cooperation between China and Iran could trigger fresh diplomatic tensions and affect trade ties between the world’s two largest economies.

The broader regional conflict has also impacted global energy markets, with concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz creating uncertainty for major energy importers, including China.
