Delhi University Advises Students to Stay Away from Jantar Mantar Protests

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, Delhi University (DU) has issued an advisory asking its students, faculty members, and staff to avoid participating in unauthorised protests at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

The advisory comes at a time when demonstrations demanding accountability over the examination controversy are intensifying across the country. In its official communication, the university stressed that public safety and adherence to the law must remain a priority for everyone associated with the institution.

Sharing the notice on social media platform X, the university reminded students that demonstrations at Jantar Mantar are governed by legal restrictions and judicial guidelines. It warned that participating in unlawful assemblies could expose individuals to legal action and create unnecessary risks for their future.

University Highlights Safety and Academic Concerns

In its statement, Delhi University said students should avoid any activity that could jeopardise their education or career prospects. The university noted that involvement in unauthorised protests may not only pose personal safety risks but could also affect academic progress and future professional opportunities.

The advisory urged students to remain vigilant and avoid becoming part of gatherings that violate legal norms. It also emphasised the importance of following official instructions and maintaining compliance with the law.

Another significant concern raised by the university was the rapid circulation of fake and misleading content on social media. According to the advisory, misinformation has the potential to escalate tensions and mislead students into taking actions based on inaccurate information. Students were advised to verify facts through official sources before responding to online messages or calls for participation.

NEET-UG Protest Movement Continues

The university’s advisory comes as protests over the alleged examination leak continue to gain attention across India.

Earlier on Thursday, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced a nationwide call for peaceful demonstrations on July 24, encouraging supporters to organise protests in districts across the country. The party rejected the Centre’s proposal for formal talks, maintaining that any discussions should take place at a neutral venue.

The party also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks on taking action against paper leaks did not address what it described as the core issue of accountability. It reiterated its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the controversy.

Government Pushes for Dialogue

Meanwhile, the Central Government has continued efforts to open discussions with protest representatives. Union Minister Jitendra Singh once again appealed for dialogue, suggesting that a meeting could be held either at the official residence or office of Union Health Minister JP Nadda.

The government has maintained that discussions remain the best way to resolve the ongoing dispute, even as protests continue in different parts of the country.

Balancing Democratic Rights and Student Welfare

The advisory from Delhi University reflects growing concerns among educational institutions about ensuring student safety during periods of political and public unrest. While peaceful protest remains a democratic right, universities are also emphasising the importance of legal compliance, personal security, and uninterrupted academic progress.
