Citroen Basalt X Comfort Edition Launched at Rs 8.75 Lakh: Features
Citroen Basalt X Comfort Edition launched in India at Rs 8.75 lakh, bringing premium cabin features and additional convenience equipment to the coupe-SUV.

Citroën has expanded its SUV lineup in India with the launch of the new Basalt X Comfort Edition, giving buyers another reason to consider the French automaker’s distinctive coupe-SUV.

Priced at Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom), the new special edition costs just Rs 20,000 more than the entry-level Basalt You variant, which is priced at Rs 8.55 lakh.

The company says the new edition is aimed at customers looking for a more premium and comfortable experience without making a significant jump in their initial purchase price.

The Basalt X Comfort Edition brings together additional interior features, convenience-focused technology and a range of personalisation options. Interestingly, this is not the first time Citroen has introduced a Comfort Edition in India. The company previously used the concept with the Aircross SUV.

What Makes the Basalt X Comfort Edition Different?

The biggest focus of the new edition is on enhancing the cabin experience.

The Basalt X Comfort Edition comes with Citroen’s Comfort AXS Packs, which are also available with the base You and mid-spec Plus trims.

Depending on the variant and pack selected, buyers can get several upgrades designed to make the vehicle feel more premium and technology-rich.

These include beige leatherette seats, which give the cabin a more upscale appearance, along with a 10.25-inch Android-based touchscreen infotainment system.

The SUV can also be equipped with a wireless smartphone charger, allowing compatible devices to be charged without the need for a cable.

For music lovers, the package includes a JBL sound system, while safety-conscious buyers can opt for dual dashcams with predictive safety alerts.

A rear-view camera is also part of the feature package, adding another layer of convenience during parking and reversing manoeuvres.

The combination of these features is intended to make the Basalt a more appealing proposition for buyers who want more equipment without moving too far up the price ladder.

Citroen Says Comfort Remains the Priority

According to Kumar Priyesh, Business Head and Director – Automotive Brands at Stellantis India, the new edition reflects Citroen’s focus on comfort-oriented innovation for Indian customers.

The Basalt X Comfort Edition combines factory-fitted interior upgrades with the company’s Comfort AXS Packs, offering customers additional convenience, technology and personalisation choices.

The strategy is fairly straightforward: instead of changing the core mechanical package, Citroen is making the Basalt more attractive through additional features and a more premium cabin experience.

Engine Options Remain Unchanged

Mechanically, the Basalt X Comfort Edition continues with the same petrol engine options available in the regular lineup.

The entry-level You trim is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 82hp and 115Nm of torque.

This engine is available exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Buyers looking for more performance can move to the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which produces 110hp and 190Nm when paired with the 6-speed manual transmission.

The turbo-petrol engine can also be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In the automatic version, the engine’s peak torque output rises to 205Nm.

This gives buyers the choice between a simpler naturally aspirated engine for everyday use and a more powerful turbo-petrol option for those who want stronger performance.

Basalt Takes on a Crowded SUV Market

The Basalt competes in one of the most fiercely contested segments of India’s passenger vehicle market.

The coupe-SUV faces competition from established names such as the Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Škoda Auto Kushaq, Tata Motors Sierra, Renault Duster, Nissan Tekton, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris and Toyota Grand Vitara.

With so many choices available, buyers are increasingly looking beyond just engine performance. Features, technology, comfort and styling are becoming equally important in the decision-making process.

That is precisely where Citroen appears to be positioning the Basalt X Comfort Edition.

Is the Extra Rs 20,000 Worth It?

At just Rs 20,000 above the entry-level Basalt You, the new Comfort Edition could attract buyers who want a more feature-rich experience without spending significantly more.

The addition of features such as leatherette upholstery, a larger touchscreen, wireless charging, premium audio and dashcams could make the price difference appear relatively small to customers prioritising convenience.

However, buyers will need to carefully check which features are included with their chosen variant and Comfort AXS Pack before making a purchase.

Citroen Basalt X Comfort Edition: A Small Price Jump, More Premium Experience

The launch of the Basalt X Comfort Edition shows Citroen’s attempt to strengthen its presence in India’s competitive midsize SUV market without radically changing the vehicle’s mechanical package.

Instead, the company has focused on the areas customers interact with every day—the cabin, infotainment, audio system, charging convenience and safety technology.

With an entry price of Rs 8.75 lakh, the Basalt X Comfort Edition could appeal to buyers who like the SUV’s distinctive coupe-inspired design but want something extra inside the cabin.

The real challenge, however, will be standing out in a segment where established rivals continue to offer strong combinations of features, performance and brand familiarity.

For Citroen, the formula is clear: keep the striking Basalt design, add more comfort and technology—and make the upgrade feel affordable…
