Veteran Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made a heartfelt admission about the possibility of returning to the India national cricket team, saying he is content with his career and is now driven purely by his passion for the game.

Having represented India in Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals, Bhuvneshwar has enjoyed a remarkable journey filled with memorable achievements. One of the earliest highlights of his career came during his domestic first-class debut, when he became the only bowler to dismiss batting legend Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in the Ranji Trophy.

Today, however, the experienced swing bowler finds himself in a different phase of his career—one where personal satisfaction has taken precedence over international ambitions.

‘I’ve Already Played for India’

Speaking in a video released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Bhuvneshwar reflected on what motivates him to continue playing domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The pacer admitted that, unlike earlier in his career, he no longer feels the pressure to prove himself through national selection.

“I’ve already played for India. That’s not something I have to achieve now. If I get another opportunity, that’s great, but I’ve been there. Everything I’m doing now is because of my love for the game. I know I have to stay disciplined,” Bhuvneshwar said.

His comments come at a time when discussions around his potential return to the Indian team have resurfaced. Recently, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin suggested that Bhuvneshwar could still be considered for India’s plans leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Still Working Hard Despite Uncertain Future

Although he is no longer a regular in India’s international setup, Bhuvneshwar continues to stay match-fit by playing domestic tournaments, including the UP T20 League.

The veteran believes maintaining the right balance between competitive cricket and adequate rest allows him to remain physically fresh while continuing to enjoy the sport.

Rather than chasing milestones, he now focuses on improving his game and contributing whenever he takes the field.

Finding Peace Beyond Selection

Bhuvneshwar also revealed that one of the biggest reasons behind his positive outlook is the support of his family.

According to the veteran pacer, cricket discussions—including team selection and missed opportunities—rarely take place at home. This has helped him maintain perspective and avoid dwelling on disappointments.

He acknowledged that being dropped from the national team can be emotionally challenging for any professional athlete. However, he also believes that every cricketer eventually has to make way for the next generation.

Instead of carrying regrets, Bhuvneshwar says he has accepted that transition as a natural part of sport.
