On August 1, the former India T20I captain shared a video of his batting practice on Instagram, accompanied by a simple yet powerful message that immediately caught the attention of cricket fans.
“It’s the dream I grew up chasing, and I’m still chasing it the same way.”
The post quickly went viral, with thousands of fans interpreting it as a strong indication that the 35-year-old is fully focused on earning another opportunity in the national team.
Training Video Sparks Comeback Speculation
The video showcased Suryakumar going through an intense batting session in the nets, displaying the attacking strokeplay that has made him one of the most entertaining T20 batters in world cricket.
Although he made no direct reference to the selectors or his recent omission, the timing of the post has naturally fuelled speculation about his international future.
Within hours of being uploaded, the clip attracted tens of thousands of likes and widespread support from fans encouraging the Mumbai batter to make a successful comeback.

Dropped Despite World Cup Success
Suryakumar’s social media post comes shortly after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors left him out of India’s squad for the tour of the United Kingdom.
The selectors also opted for a leadership change, handing the T20I captaincy to Shreyas Iyer after moving on from Suryakumar.
Interestingly, the decision was widely viewed as being driven by his recent batting struggles rather than his captaincy, especially considering he had led India to the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.
Recent Form Has Been a Concern
The biggest challenge facing Suryakumar remains his form with the bat.
Representing the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, he managed 270 runs in 13 innings, averaging 20.76, while registering just two half-centuries.
His performances at the 2026 T20 World Cup followed a similar pattern.
After producing a match-winning half-century against the United States in India’s opening fixture, he struggled to maintain consistency for the remainder of the tournament.
Even so, India went on to lift the trophy under his captaincy, reinforcing his credentials as a leader despite a difficult campaign with the bat.

There were encouraging signs in domestic cricket.
Leading Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in the 2026 T20 Mumbai League, Suryakumar produced several impactful innings that hinted at a return to form.
His unbeaten 72 off 36 balls against MSC Maratha Royals played a crucial role in securing victory for his side.
He followed that performance with another fluent knock of 48 not out from just 24 deliveries against SoBo Mumbai Falcons, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 200.
While domestic cricket is a different challenge from international competition, those innings demonstrated that his attacking approach remains intact.
An Impressive T20I Legacy
Suryakumar took over as India’s T20I captain in July 2024, following the retirement of Rohit Sharma from the format.
During his leadership stint, he scored 932 runs across 45 T20 internationals while guiding India through a successful period.
He also holds a unique record as the only batter to score T20I centuries in India, England, New Zealand, and South Africa, underlining his reputation as one of the format’s most versatile stroke-makers.
