Vijay’s GOAT and Bigil producer Archana Kalpathi gets new Tamil Nadu role… joins key HR&CE temple trustee panel

Film producer Archana Kalpathi Aghoram, associated with some of Vijay’s biggest recent films, has taken on a new public role in Tamil Nadu.

Archana has been appointed as a member of the reconstituted state-level committee of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, which is responsible for appointing non-hereditary trustees to temples with an annual income of more than Rs 10 lakh.

The seven-member committee will serve a two-year term, effective from July 24, according to an order issued by HR&CE Secretary J Kumarakurubaran.

Who else is on the HR&CE committee?

The newly constituted panel will be headed by Thavathiru Sivagnana Balaya Swamikal of Boomapuram Adheenam, who has been appointed chairman.

Retired District and Sessions Judge K Ramanathan has been named deputy chairman.

Archana Kalpathi will serve as one of the members of the seven-member committee.

The panel’s key responsibility will involve the appointment of non-hereditary trustees for temples falling under the specified income category.

Archana Kalpathi’s connection with Vijay

Archana is closely associated with AGS Entertainment, the production company behind several prominent Tamil films.

The production house backed Vijay-starrers Bigil and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), both of which featured the actor in leading roles.

Archana’s appointment has also attracted attention because of developments surrounding Vijay’s growing political profile.

Vijay, who has been transitioning from cinema towards active politics, recently completed work on Jana Nayagan, which has been widely described as his final film before his full-time political career.

Against this backdrop, producer K Venkata Narayanan, who produced Jana Nayagan, was named as a special representative of the Tamil Nadu government in Delhi.

The two developments have prompted interest because of their proximity and the involvement of people associated with Vijay’s film career.

However, there is no official indication that Archana Kalpathi’s HR&CE appointment and K Venkata Narayanan’s government role are connected.

The HR&CE Department oversees the administration of a large number of Hindu temples and religious institutions across Tamil Nadu.

The newly reconstituted committee will specifically play a role in selecting non-hereditary trustees for temples that generate more than Rs 10 lakh in annual income.
