Ajinkya Raut Admits He Was Wrong About Social Media: “Today, Visibility Matters as Much as Talent”

Mumbai: Television actor Ajinkya Raut, best known for his performances in Vithu Mauli and Man Udu Udu Zhala, has reflected on how his perspective on fame, acting and the entertainment industry has changed over the years.

The actor admitted that he once believed social media had little role in an actor’s success, but says experience has taught him that visibility and audience engagement are now an essential part of the profession.

‘I Thought Social Media Didn’t Matter’

Looking back on his earlier views, Ajinkya Raut said he initially felt that an actor’s work on screen should speak for itself.“Three years ago, I believed social media wasn’t as important as performing on screen and focusing on your craft. I still believe being a good actor is the most important thing, but today I understand that packaging, promotion and visibility matter too,” he said.

The actor added that while talent remains the foundation of a successful career, digital platforms have become equally important for connecting with audiences.

Actors Must Embrace Every Platform

Ajinkya believes the role of an actor has expanded beyond films and television, with social media offering new opportunities for creativity and public interaction.“The influencer aspect of being an actor and using different platforms for performing arts and public interaction has become equally important. Earlier I didn’t believe in it, but now I do, and I’m enjoying every part of it,” he shared.

His remarks reflect the changing landscape of the entertainment industry, where online presence often complements on-screen performances.

Learning Telugu for the Love of Language

Beyond acting, Ajinkya Raut revealed that he has developed a keen interest in learning new languages and is currently studying Telugu.

According to the actor, the decision isn’t driven by career ambitions alone but by a genuine curiosity to explore different cultures.“I don’t know whether I’ll work there or if an opportunity will come my way, but I’m learning it simply for the joy of learning something new,” he said.

Ajinkya believes that learning a language opens doors to understanding its literature, cinema and cultural traditions, making it a rewarding experience beyond professional opportunities.

Cinema Continues to Inspire Him

The actor also spoke about his love for films, revealing that cinema remains one of his greatest inspirations.

He shared that he has installed a projector at home to enjoy movies and often prefers watching films alone in theatres, simply because he enjoys the immersive experience.

Engineering Was His Backup Career

While acting was always his childhood dream, Ajinkya Raut revealed that he had a strong academic background and would have pursued a different profession if he hadn’t entered the entertainment industry.“I’m an engineer by education, so if I hadn’t become an actor, I would definitely have been an engineer. But ever since childhood, acting was always the dream I wanted to fulfil,” he said.

Today, with a successful television career and an evolving outlook on the industry, Ajinkya says he continues to focus on both honing his craft and embracing new opportunities beyond the screen.
