Abhishek Sharma Creates T20I History, Smashes Fastest 100 Sixes—but His Explosive 24-Ball Knock Had an Unexpected Ending
India’s fearless opener rewrote the record books against England by becoming the quickest batter to reach 100 T20I sixes, before a clever slower delivery cut short what looked like another match-defining innings.
Durham, England: Abhishek Sharma continued his meteoric rise in international cricket by achieving a remarkable milestone during India’s opening T20 International (T20I) against England cricket team at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
The explosive left-handed batter became the fastest player in T20I history to smash 100 sixes, reaching the landmark in just 785 deliveries. In doing so, the 25-year-old surpassed the previous record held by Evin Lewis of the West Indies cricket team, who had taken 789 balls to achieve the feat.
The achievement further underlines Abhishek’s growing reputation as one of India’s most dangerous white-ball batters, known for taking on bowlers from the very first over.
A fearless rescue act after India’s shaky start
India’s innings got off to the worst possible beginning as the early dismissals of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan left the visitors struggling at 6/2.
With pressure mounting, Abhishek walked in and completely changed the momentum of the innings.

He announced his intentions with a stylish lofted boundary over the covers against Luke Wood, before attacking Liam Dawson with a towering six over extra cover.
The aggressive left-hander then shifted into top gear against Saqib Mahmood, dispatching the England pacer for boundaries and consecutive sixes that thrilled the crowd in Durham.
Fifty in just 20 balls
Abhishek barely slowed down as he raced to a stunning half-century in only 20 deliveries, showcasing an incredible mix of clean hitting and fearless strokeplay.
He continued to dominate England’s bowling attack, including spinner Adil Rashid and all-rounder Will Jacks, with effortless timing and powerful hitting.
By the time his innings ended, Abhishek had scored 59 runs from just 24 balls, an innings decorated with six boundaries and four towering sixes.

Clever delivery brings an end to fireworks
Just when another memorable century appeared possible, Sam Curran produced a crucial breakthrough.
The England all-rounder deceived Abhishek with a well-disguised slower delivery that struck him in front of the stumps. Although the on-field umpire initially rejected the appeal, England opted for the Decision Review System (DRS).
Ball-tracking confirmed the ball would have crashed into leg stump, forcing the umpire to overturn the decision and ending Abhishek’s electrifying stay at the crease.
Record books rewritten
With his latest milestone, Abhishek now sits at the top of the all-time list for the fastest batters to reach 100 sixes in T20 Internationals.
Fewest balls to reach 100 T20I sixes:
- Abhishek Sharma (India) – 785 balls
- Evin Lewis (West Indies) – 789 balls
- Karanbir Singh (Austria) – 848 balls
- Finn Allen (New Zealand) – 871 balls
- Tim David (Australia) – 932 balls
Abhishek’s aggressive style has quickly made him one of India’s most exciting T20 talents. With every innings, the youngster continues to break records and strengthen his place as a key player in India’s white-ball future.
