Former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth has made a deeply emotional revelation about the most difficult chapter of his life, crediting his wife Bhuvneshwari for helping him overcome the pain and despair that followed the infamous 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal.

Speaking candidly during an interview, the former World Cup-winning pacer admitted that his wife’s support became the biggest reason he chose hope over hopelessness while he was lodged in jail.

The controversy erupted in May 2013, when Sreesanth and fellow Rajasthan Royals players Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chahttps were arrested over allegations of spot-fixing during the Indian Premier League. The incident led to widespread criticism, suspension from the franchise, and a lifetime ban imposed by the BCCI, which was later lifted.

Looking back at those painful moments, Sreesanth shared an emotional memory that continues to define his life.“One of the reasons I didn’t kill myself was her because I had promised her in 2010 that if we won the 2011 World Cup, I would marry her,” he said.

The former Indian pacer also revealed that he had undergone a serious toe surgery in 2012, which left him confined to a wheelchair for a period.

Doctors had reportedly warned him about a small but significant possibility of paralysis because of the delicate nerve-ending procedure. He was also battling bone marrow edema, creating doubts about whether he would ever return to professional cricket.

Concerned about his future, Sreesanth had even informed his future mother-in-law that marriage should be postponed because he was uncertain about continuing his cricket career.

However, the family refused to let circumstances define their relationship.

Sreesanth expressed immense gratitude towards his wife’s family for choosing to stand with him despite the legal battle and public scrutiny that surrounded him.
