Punjab Kings all-rounder Suryansh Shedge is likely to replace injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s upcoming white-ball squads.

India’s white-ball plans have taken an unexpected turn after reports emerged that Nitish Kumar Reddy is likely to miss the upcoming Ireland T20 series and could also be unavailable for the crucial England tour due to a quadriceps injury.

With the BCCI now searching for a replacement, all eyes are on rising all-rounder Suryansh Shedge, who is reportedly the frontrunner to fill the void in both the T20I and ODI squads.

India are scheduled to face Ireland in a two-match T20I series starting June 26, followed by a major white-ball assignment in England featuring five T20Is and three ODIs. Nitish was expected to play a key role, especially with Hardik Pandya still recovering from an injury suffered during IPL 2026.

This has made the need for a seam-bowling all-rounder even more critical.

According to reports from Dainik Jagran and The Times of India, the selectors are now leaning towards Suryansh Shedge, a 23-year-old all-rounder who has quietly built a reputation as a fearless lower-order finisher.

But who exactly is Suryansh Shedge?

The Mumbai cricketer is a right-handed batter and medium-fast bowler, known for his aggressive strokeplay and ability to accelerate under pressure. He made headlines during Mumbai’s successful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign, where his performances caught the attention of IPL scouts.

That led to his selection by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for ₹30 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction.

Interestingly, Shedge had first entered the IPL ecosystem back in 2023, when he joined Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement for Jaydev Unadkat, though he did not get a game that season.

Across two IPL seasons with Punjab Kings, Shedge has played 10 innings, scoring 165 runs at a strike rate of 163.36. In IPL 2026, he showed even greater maturity, scoring 158 runs in seven innings at an explosive strike rate of 175.55.

While he is yet to take a wicket in the IPL, his all-round capabilities have impressed selectors at the domestic level.

Recently, Shedge was part of the India A squad in the tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he contributed 147 runs in five matches and picked up two wickets, playing a valuable role in India’s title-winning campaign.

His overall domestic T20 numbers also reflect his growing promise — 356 runs in 30 matches at a striking 178.89 strike rate, along with 13 wickets.

In List A cricket, he has scored 258 runs in 15 matches and taken 11 wickets, showcasing his versatility in longer white-ball formats.

What makes Shedge stand out is his identity as a finisher — a player who thrives under pressure and can change games in the final overs. With India searching for depth and balance in the middle order, his profile fits the current team requirements perfectly.

If selected, this could be the biggest moment of his young career — and perhaps the beginning of India’s next all-round star.
