‘I Couldn’t Stop Smiling…’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Left Speechless After Seeing His Name on Team India Jersey
At just 15 years old, rising batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi says his childhood dream has finally come true after earning his maiden India call-up for the upcoming Ireland and England T20I tour.
For every young cricketer in India, wearing the blue jersey is the ultimate dream. For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, that dream has now become reality — and the teenage star admits he still can’t fully believe it.
The 15-year-old batting prodigy, who recently earned his first-ever call-up to the Indian T20I squad, opened up emotionally after seeing his name printed on the back of the national jersey for the very first time.
In a video shared by the BCCI, Sooryavanshi struggled to put his feelings into words, describing the moment as surreal.
“It’s difficult to express in words. The reason I first picked up a bat and started practising was to one day wear the India jersey, and that dream has come true today. It feels unreal,” he said.
The young batter revealed that seeing the jersey left him smiling uncontrollably and momentarily speechless.
“I simply cannot explain this feeling. It feels like a dream. The moment I saw the jersey, I was so happy. I couldn’t stop smiling,” he added.
For Sooryavanshi, this India call-up is the latest chapter in what has been a meteoric rise over the last year. The left-handed batter has quickly become one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket, thanks to a series of extraordinary performances across different levels.
He has been included in India’s squad for seven T20Is in the United Kingdom, which includes two matches against Ireland and a five-match series against England, beginning on June 26 in Belfast.
And he heads into the tour in red-hot form.
In the final of the recent India A tri-series, Sooryavanshi smashed a breathtaking 94 off just 29 balls, rewriting records by scoring the fastest-ever List A fifty in just 11 deliveries. His explosive innings helped India secure a 66-run victory in the title clash.

That innings was only another addition to an already incredible year.
Earlier in the season, he delivered a historic knock in the Under-19 World Cup final, hammering 175 runs off 80 balls against England, an innings packed with 15 fours and 15 sixes. It remains the highest individual score ever recorded in an Under-19 World Cup final.

His form continued into the IPL, where he played a key role in Rajasthan Royals’ playoff run. In the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he blasted 97 off 29 balls, followed by another sensational 96 off 47 balls against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.
These are not just big numbers — they have come under the highest pressure.
Across four major knockout and title-deciding matches — the Under-19 World Cup final, IPL Eliminator, IPL Qualifier 2, and the India A tri-series final — Sooryavanshi has scored a staggering 462 runs off just 185 balls, at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 249.73.
For a player still in his teens, those numbers are extraordinary.
But beyond the records and headlines, it is the emotional moment of seeing his name on the India jersey that may remain the most special memory of all.
Now, the dream is no longer just stitched in blue — it is ready to be lived on the field.
