‘Vishwanath & Sons’ Box Office Day 1: Suriya’s Film Opens Strong At Rs 15 Crore, But Falls Short Of ‘Karuppu’
Directed by Venky Atluri, Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s Vishwanath & Sons has made a solid start in India, with the Tamil version emerging as the biggest contributor to its opening-day earnings.
Suriya is back on the big screen with Vishwanath & Sons, and the film has made a promising start at the box office. Released on Friday, August 14, the Venky Atluri directorial has reportedly earned more than Rs 15 crore net in India on its opening day, despite not managing to beat the first-day numbers of Suriya’s previous release, Karuppu.
According to estimates reported by film trade tracker Sacnilk, Vishwanath & Sons collected around Rs 15.15 crore net in India on Day 1. Its estimated domestic gross stood at approximately Rs 17.51 crore.
The film also received a healthy contribution from overseas markets. With an estimated Rs 10 crore coming from international territories, Vishwanath & Sons is said to have recorded a worldwide gross of around Rs 27.51 crore on its opening day.
Tamil Version Leads The Domestic Collection
The Tamil version remained the biggest contributor to the film’s Indian earnings, accounting for approximately Rs 9.15 crore. The Telugu version, meanwhile, added around Rs 6 crore to the domestic total.
While the opening is encouraging, the numbers are still below the first-day collection of Suriya’s previous film, Karuppu. That comparison will likely remain important as Vishwanath & Sons enters its first weekend, when audience turnout traditionally gets a major boost.

What Audiences Are Saying About Vishwanath & Sons
The film has reportedly received a largely positive response for its emotional storytelling and the way Venky Atluri handles a sensitive subject. Viewers have particularly appreciated the heartwarming narrative and engaging screenplay.
However, the response has not been completely unanimous. Some sections of the audience have pointed towards predictable sequences and a slow pace in parts of the film.
The coming weekend could therefore prove crucial. If positive word-of-mouth continues to spread, the film could see stronger occupancy and build momentum through its first few days.
What Is Suriya’s Film About?
Vishwanath & Sons follows Sanjay Vishwanath, played by Suriya, an ambitious athlete who dreams of representing India and winning a gold medal in pistol shooting at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The film also stars Mamitha Baiju alongside a large supporting cast that includes Radhika Sarathkumar, Rajeev Menon, Raveena Tandon, Nassar, Sudha, Raghu Babu, Sunil Reddy, Bhavani Sre, Vaibhav Harsha, Kali Venkat, George Maryan, Hyper Aadi, Sreeja Ravi, Sarvadaman Banerjee, Mathew Varghese, Kalyani Natarajan, Karate Karthik and Master Charvik.
The technical crew features G. V. Prakash Kumar, who has composed the music, while Nimish Ravi is the cinematographer and Naveen Nooli has handled the editing.
With a Rs 15.15 crore net opening in India and a reported worldwide gross of Rs 27.51 crore, Vishwanath & Sons has given Suriya a decent start. The bigger question now is whether the film can maintain its momentum over the weekend and close the gap with Karuppu.
