Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir Keep Their Distance Before England ODI… Training Ground Silence Sparks Fresh Speculation
A quiet practice session involving Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir has triggered widespread discussion ahead of India’s opening ODI against England, though no official concerns have been raised by the team.
A routine training session ahead of India’s first ODI against England has become the latest talking point after Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir were reportedly seen keeping their interactions to a minimum during practice.
As Team India, led by Shubman Gill, prepared for the series opener at Edgbaston, several observers noticed that Kohli and Gambhir appeared focused on their respective routines without engaging in any visible conversation.
The incident has fuelled speculation on social media, although there has been no official indication of any disagreement between the two.
The ODI series marks Kohli’s return to international cricket after a six-month break. The former India captain last featured in an ODI series against New Zealand before being sidelined by a hamstring injury suffered during the IPL 2026 final, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Gujarat Titans to lift the trophy.

During the training session, Kohli concentrated on his batting drills while Gambhir spent time monitoring different players across the practice area. Reports suggested that although the head coach observed Kohli’s net session, there was no noticeable exchange between the two.
The lack of visible interaction quickly became a subject of discussion online, with fans offering mixed reactions. While some interpreted the silence as a sign of possible tension, others pointed out that players and coaches often focus on separate responsibilities during training, making such observations insufficient to draw conclusions.
The attention surrounding the pair comes at a crucial time for Team India. Following a disappointing 0-4 defeat in the T20I series, Gautam Gambhir faces increased scrutiny as India looks to bounce back in the 50-over format.

At the same time, expectations remain high for Virat Kohli, who returns as one of India’s most experienced batters. His comeback is expected to strengthen the middle order and provide valuable leadership alongside the young captain Shubman Gill.
Despite the online buzz, neither Kohli, Gambhir, nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued any statement suggesting unrest within the squad.
For now, the focus remains firmly on the cricket. India will be aiming to start the ODI series on a positive note against England, and both Kohli and Gambhir will have important roles to play as the team looks to respond after recent setbacks.
Until any official confirmation emerges, the discussions surrounding their training-ground interaction remain largely speculative, with the spotlight now shifting to India’s performance on the field.
