‘My dream was to earn Rs 1 lakh a month’: Vikrant Massey recalls working at a Juhu café before Bollywood success

From working at a café in Mumbai to becoming one of Bollywood’s most respected actors, Vikrant Massey says his journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Ahead of the release of his upcoming romantic drama Musafir Cafe, the actor looked back at the early years of his career, revealing that there was a time when his biggest ambition was simply to earn ₹1 lakh a month.

Recalling those struggling days, Vikrant shared that he worked at a café in Juhu while pursuing his studies and simultaneously auditioning for acting roles. At the time, financial stability was his biggest goal.

‘God has been very kind’

Speaking about his journey, Vikrant Massey expressed gratitude for how his life has changed over the years.

The actor said that earning ₹1 lakh a month once felt like the ultimate milestone, believing that reaching that figure would mean he had become financially secure. Looking back now, he feels fortunate to have achieved much more than he had ever imagined.

Beyond financial success, Vikrant said he feels blessed to make a living by doing what he loves the most—telling meaningful stories through cinema.

He also thanked his fans for their unwavering support, saying their patience, encouragement and belief in his work over the past 22 years have played a major role in his journey.

OTT platforms gave talented artists a bigger stage

During the conversation, Vikrant Massey also spoke about the impact of OTT platforms, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He credited Netflix with helping many of his films reach a wider audience. The actor recalled that several of his projects were streaming on the platform around the same time, leading friends from the industry to jokingly call it a “Vikrant Massey Film Festival.”

According to him, digital platforms have opened doors for countless actors, writers, directors and technicians who may not have otherwise received similar opportunities in mainstream cinema.

Changing audience habits

Vikrant also reflected on how entertainment consumption has evolved in recent years.

He believes audiences are increasingly choosing to watch content on smartphones and streaming platforms instead of visiting theatres. While quality films continue to be made, changing viewing habits have significantly altered how people consume entertainment today.

The actor feels OTT services have become an important part of the industry by giving audiences greater access to diverse stories and fresh talent.

‘Musafir Cafe’ set for Netflix release

On the professional front, Vikrant Massey is preparing for the release of Musafir Cafe, a romantic drama that also stars Vedika Pinto and Mahima Makwana.

The film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 24, 2026, adding another title to the actor’s growing list of OTT releases.
