‘I Have to Follow the Process’: Can 15-Year-Old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Silence Jofra Archer’s Ghost and Lead India’s Zimbabwe Revival?

Harare: India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is looking at the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe as the perfect opportunity to turn the page after a challenging introduction to international cricket. With India aiming to recover from successive series defeats against Ireland and England, the 15-year-old believes patience, preparation, and sticking to the process will be the keys to success.

The three-match series begins on Thursday at the Harare Sports Club, where the visitors are desperate to regain confidence after enduring a disappointing run in the shortest format.

Speaking ahead of the opening match, Sooryavanshi admitted that the past few months have tested the team but insisted there is no reason to panic.”There have been several ups and downs in the last four months. It’s part of cricket and it will keep happening. I have to follow the process and give my 100 per cent for the team,” the youngster said in an interaction shared by the BCCI.

Zimbabwe memories give the teenager confidence

Unlike many players touring Zimbabwe for the first time, Sooryavanshi already has happy memories of batting in Harare. The left-handed batter impressed during the ICC Under-19 World Cup, gaining valuable experience on the same pitches where India will now play the senior international series.

The youngster believes those lessons could prove invaluable as he prepares to face another important challenge in his growing career.

“I’ve played here before during the Under-19 World Cup and understand the conditions. I’ll try to use everything I learned during that tournament and apply it in these matches,” he said.

That familiarity could become one of India’s biggest advantages as the team looks to bounce back quickly from recent disappointments.

A record-breaking debut followed by a harsh reality

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The teenager became the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket, making his debut at just 15 years and 100 days, surpassing the long-standing record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Facing one of the world’s fastest bowling attacks, Sooryavanshi struggled to find rhythm during India’s difficult 0-4 T20I series defeat against England.
