‘Must ask BCCI and Agarkar’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s snub leaves Vaughan, Cook stunned

The hype around teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has now gone global.

What started as excitement among Indian fans has now turned into international curiosity, with even former England captains openly questioning why the 15-year-old prodigy is yet to make his senior T20I debut.

Despite sold-out crowds during India’s T20I tour of Ireland, where many hoped to witness the youngster in action, Sooryavanshi remained on the bench for both matches.

The story repeated itself again when India moved to England for the T20I leg.

And that has left several cricketing greats baffled.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan, who has been one of Sooryavanshi’s strongest supporters, expressed his frustration over the teenager’s absence.

Speaking on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Vaughan said he would love to ask the Board of Control for Cricket in India and chief selector Ajit Agarkar why the youngster hasn’t been given an opportunity yet.

Joining him was former England captain Alastair Cook, who jokingly said he was ready to drive up as a fan just to make sure the teenager gets a game.

Their comments add to a growing list of cricket legends surprised by India’s cautious approach.

Earlier, former India stars Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar had also questioned the decision to keep him out.

Why is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi still waiting?

While the buzz continues, India’s team management appears firm on its stance.

For Sooryavanshi to break into the playing XI, either Abhishek Sharma or Sanju Samson would likely have to make way.

Given their current standing and role in India’s T20 setup, such a move seems unlikely for now.

But the youngster’s recent numbers make the debate even louder.

Sooryavanshi has enjoyed a dream run over the last five months.

He captained India’s Under-19 side to a World Cup title, smashing a blistering 175 runs in the final, one of the most talked-about innings of the tournament.

He then carried that form into the Indian Premier League, where he piled up 776 runs and became the youngest-ever player to win the Orange Cap.

Before joining the senior squad, he was also part of India A’s tour of Sri Lanka, where his explosive 94 in the final included the fastest half-century in List A cricket.

That innings played a crucial role in India A’s title win.

Despite such extraordinary performances, the wait for his senior debut continues.

And as the pressure mounts — not just from Indian fans, but now from cricketing legends across the world — the question remains:
