India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has once again turned Harare into his personal hunting ground, producing a breathtaking knock that guided Team India to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the opening T20 International.
The 15-year-old opener smashed a sensational 50 off just 19 deliveries, helping India chase down 126 runs with 40 balls to spare and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The innings was not only his maiden T20I half-century but also a timely reminder of why he is regarded as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents.
Harare continues to bring out the best in the youngster
For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the Harare Sports Club has become a venue filled with special memories.
Earlier this year, the left-handed batter lit up the same ground by scoring a breathtaking 175 off 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final against England, playing a decisive role in India’s title triumph.
Reflecting on another memorable outing in Harare, Sooryavanshi admitted he enjoys batting at the venue but insisted he is focused on performing consistently wherever he plays.
Speaking to BCCI.tv, the youngster said he loves the atmosphere in Harare but does not want to take success at any particular ground for granted. Instead, his aim remains to contribute to the team’s success every time he walks onto the field.
England struggles now behind him
The innings was especially significant because it came after a difficult start to his international career.
Having become the youngest cricketer to represent India only last month, Sooryavanshi found runs hard to come by during the three-match T20I series against England. His fluent half-century against Zimbabwe, however, has given him renewed confidence.
The teenage opener said scoring a match-winning knock so early in his career boosts self-belief and motivates him to continue backing his natural attacking game. He added that he felt completely in control during the innings and trusted his strengths throughout the chase.

Mayank Yadav marks comeback with Player of the Match performance
While Sooryavanshi grabbed the headlines with the bat, fast bowler Mayank Yadav enjoyed an equally satisfying return with the ball.
Playing his first international match after a prolonged injury layoff, the speedster produced figures of 2/18 in four overs, helping restrict Zimbabwe to 125/7 before India’s comfortable chase.
Named Player of the Match, Mayank admitted the rehabilitation process had been mentally challenging. The 24-year-old revealed that suffering multiple injuries at such a young age tested his patience, but the dream of representing India kept him motivated throughout his recovery.
India makes a confident start to the series
The performances of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Mayank Yadav gave India the perfect start to the Zimbabwe tour, combining fearless batting with disciplined bowling.
With young players stepping up on both fronts, Shreyas Iyer’s side has taken early control of the three-match series and will now look to seal the contest in the second T20I.
