“Thank You Team”: Rishabh Pant’s three-word message after Delhi Capitals reunion leaves fans talking
After an underwhelming two-year spell with Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant is heading back to Delhi Capitals in a blockbuster trade that also sees Kuldeep Yadav switch camps.
In a move that has already become one of the biggest talking points ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Rishabh Pant is officially returning to Delhi Capitals.
While fans were busy discussing the high-profile trade, Pant’s reaction caught just as much attention. Shortly after the announcement, the star wicketkeeper-batter shared Lucknow Super Giants‘ farewell post on Instagram and posted a simple yet heartfelt message: “Thank you team.”
Those three words effectively brought the curtain down on a chapter that began with enormous expectations but ultimately failed to deliver the results either Pant or LSG had hoped for.
A Record-Breaking Deal That Never Fully Clicked
When Lucknow signed Pant ahead of IPL 2025 for a staggering ₹27 crore, it was one of the most talked-about acquisitions in league history. The franchise viewed him as a long-term leader capable of taking the team to the next level.
Even Sanjiv Goenka, chairman of the franchise, had publicly backed Pant as a key investment for the future.
However, cricket often has its own script.

Under Pant’s leadership, LSG struggled to find consistency. The team finished seventh in IPL 2025 before enduring an even tougher campaign in IPL 2026, ending at the bottom of the points table with only four wins from 14 matches.
Pant’s batting numbers also reflected the difficult period. He scored 269 runs in the 2025 season and followed it with 312 runs in 2026, managing only one half-century during the latter campaign.
Back to Familiar Territory
The return to Delhi Capitals feels less like a transfer and more like a homecoming.
Pant spent eight seasons with Delhi between 2016 and 2024 and became one of the franchise’s most recognizable faces. He also captained the side from 2021 to 2024, leading the team in 43 matches.
The trade will also see Pant accept a significant pay reduction. After earning ₹27 crore at Lucknow, he returns to Delhi on a ₹15 crore contract.
For many Delhi fans, however, the financial details are secondary. What matters most is seeing one of the franchise’s biggest stars back in familiar colours.

Kuldeep Yadav Heads to Lucknow
The trade is not a one-way story.
As part of the agreement, Kuldeep Yadav will move from Delhi Capitals to Lucknow Super Giants.
Kuldeep has been one of Delhi’s most dependable bowlers since joining the franchise in 2022, taking 72 wickets in 65 matches. Despite a relatively difficult IPL 2026 campaign, where he claimed 10 wickets in 14 games, his ability to deliver breakthroughs remains highly valued.
For Lucknow, the arrival of a proven left-arm wrist spinner could help strengthen a bowling unit that struggled throughout the previous season.
A Fresh Start for Both Franchises
The trade signals a strategic reset for both teams.
Delhi Capitals regain a player who understands the franchise culture and fan expectations, while Lucknow Super Giants acquire an experienced match-winning spinner as they look to rebuild after a disappointing campaign.
As the dust settles on one of the IPL’s biggest player moves, Pant’s brief farewell message perhaps summed it up best—simple, respectful, and forward-looking.
Now, all eyes will be on whether his return to Delhi can reignite the magic that once made him one of the most exciting names in Indian cricket.
