‘Batted 1,000 Balls in 3 Hours’: Suryakumar Yadav Sends Strong Selection Message After India Snub… Is a Comeback on the Cards?
Days after being dropped from India’s T20I squad, former captain Suryakumar Yadav shared an intense training session on social media, signalling his determination to fight for a place back in the national team.
Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has made it clear that he is not ready to give up on his international career. After being left out of India’s latest T20I squad, the explosive batter has returned to the nets with renewed determination, sharing a glimpse of his rigorous practice routine that has once again sparked discussions over his future with Team India.
Just hours after India completed a convincing 3-0 T20I series sweep over Zimbabwe, Surya posted a training video from the Vasoo Paranjape Cricket Academy, showing himself undergoing an intense batting and fitness session.
Surya’s training post grabs attention
Sharing the clip on social media, the 35-year-old revealed the scale of his preparation.“Sunday was fun. Quick run. Batted around 1000 balls for 3 hours. Felt good.”
The post quickly caught the attention of fans, many of whom praised the Mumbai batter’s work ethic and backed him to earn another opportunity in India’s T20I setup.
A surprising fall after World Cup glory
The latest training update comes only months after Suryakumar Yadav led India to a historic T20 World Cup triumph. Despite lifting the trophy as captain, the selectors opted for a fresh direction, removing him from the squad and appointing Shreyas Iyer as India’s new T20I captain.
The decision surprised many cricket followers, considering Surya became one of the few Indian captains to guide the team to a T20 World Cup title.
Form became the deciding factor
While Surya’s leadership received widespread appreciation, his batting performances had been under scrutiny for some time.
His underwhelming campaign in IPL 2026 reportedly influenced the selectors’ thinking, with inconsistent performances making it difficult for him to retain his place in the squad despite his experience and leadership credentials.

Ajit Agarkar explains the decision
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that the decision was not solely based on recent performances but also on India’s long-term planning ahead of the next T20 World Cup and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where cricket is set to return after a gap of 128 years.
According to Agarkar, moving on from a World Cup-winning captain was never an easy call. However, the selection committee believed it was the right time to reassess the squad and begin building for the next international cycle.
He also acknowledged that Surya’s recent form played a role, but stressed that future planning remained a key consideration in the decision-making process.
Can Surya force his way back?

Despite the setback, Suryakumar Yadav appears determined to prove that his international journey is far from over. His latest training session reflects both his commitment and his desire to regain the confidence of the selectors.
With domestic cricket and franchise tournaments offering fresh opportunities to impress, the experienced batter will hope that consistent performances can once again make him impossible to ignore.
For now, Surya’s message is simple—he is putting in the work, one ball at a time, in pursuit of another chance to wear the India jersey.
