Ranbir Kapoor speaks at San Diego Comic-Con about the fear, responsibility and gratitude he felt before taking on the role of Lord Rama in Ramayana.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has spoken candidly about the emotional journey of taking on one of Indian cinema’s most revered characters Lord Rama in filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of the Ramayana.

During a special panel at San Diego Comic-Con, attended by Ranbir, co-star Yash, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, the actor revealed that his first reaction to being offered the role was filled with fear and uncertainty.

“I remember when the film was first offered to me, there was so much fear and so much doubt. I kept asking myself, ‘Will I be able to do this? Am I capable enough?’” Ranbir shared.

From Self-Doubt To Gratitude

Ranbir said those initial fears soon transformed into gratitude as he began to understand the significance of the opportunity.

Describing the project as a once-in-a-lifetime responsibility, the actor said portraying Lord Rama meant much more than simply playing a character on screen.

According to Ranbir, Lord Rama has inspired millions of people for generations and represents values such as courage, compassion, righteousness, forgiveness, and resilience.

He added that bringing such an iconic figure to life was both an honour and a deeply humbling experience.

‘Faith And Honesty Were The Biggest Requirements’

The actor explained that he eventually realised the role did not demand perfection but rather sincerity.

Ranbir said the entire cast and crew approached the film with a shared commitment to present the Ramayana as authentically as possible.

A Grand Two-Part Epic

Backed by producer Namit Malhotra and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part cinematic saga.

The film features an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, alongside Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi, and Kunal Kapoor in key roles.

The first instalment is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while the second chapter is expected to arrive in Diwali 2027, making it one of the most anticipated Indian film franchises in recent years.
