Prasidh Krishna celebrates after dismissing Jos Buttler and Sam Curran in the same over during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston.

Prasidh Krishna produced a remarkable turnaround in fortunes as the Indian fast bowler delivered a match-changing spell in the first ODI against England at Edgbaston, removing Jos Buttler and Sam Curran in the same over.

The double breakthrough came just weeks after Krishna endured a disappointing T20I campaign against Ireland and England, where he struggled for rhythm and leaked runs consistently.

From T20I disappointment to ODI redemption

The 30-year-old pacer had a forgettable outing during India’s recent T20I assignments.

In the opening T20I against Ireland in Belfast, Krishna conceded 57 runs in his four overs as India suffered a 34-run defeat. His struggles continued in the fifth T20I against England, where he went wicketless while conceding 26 runs as India ended the series with a heavy loss.

However, the ODI format brought a fresh start, and Krishna grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

India fight back after England’s strong start

After Shubman Gill lost the toss and India were asked to bowl first, England openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell raced to a brisk start, adding 60 runs during the powerplay.

India finally found the breakthrough in the 12th over when Gurnoor Brar dismissed both openers in quick succession. Duckett departed after scoring 43, while Bethell was sent back for 14.

Soon after, Jasprit Bumrah, making his first ODI appearance since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, removed England captain Harry Brook for just one run.

Prasidh Krishna changes the game

With England looking to rebuild, Prasidh Krishna produced the decisive over of the innings.

His first wicket came when Jos Buttler attempted a pull shot but managed only a top edge. Despite a brief collision between Shubman Gill and Gurnoor Brar, the catch was safely completed.

Three deliveries later, Krishna struck again by inducing an outside edge from Sam Curran, with wicketkeeper KL Rahul completing a comfortable catch behind the stumps.

The twin dismissals reduced England to 80/5 in 16.4 overs, firmly shifting momentum in India’s favour.

Important boost ahead of the series

Krishna’s impressive spell will come as a major confidence booster after his difficult T20I performances.

The right-arm pacer now has 47 wickets in 26 ODIs and will be eager to maintain his rhythm throughout the remainder of the three-match series.

At the time of writing, England were struggling at 117/6 after 25 overs, with India firmly in control of the opening ODI.
