Strait of Hormuz Shock… Oil Tanker Hit by ‘Unknown Projectile’ as US–Iran Fire Exchange Sparks Fresh Middle East Alarm
A Panama-flagged tanker reportedly damaged near the Strait of Hormuz after escalating tensions between Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and US-linked positions in the Gulf.
Tensions in the Middle East have surged once again after an oil tanker was struck by an “unidentified projectile” in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes for global oil supply.
The incident was confirmed by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which reported that the vessel sustained damage to its bridge, although all crew members were reported safe.
According to maritime security firm Vanguard Tech, the vessel involved has been identified as the Panama-flagged tanker KIKU. The circumstances surrounding the strike remain unclear, with no group officially claiming responsibility at the time of reporting.

The development comes amid rapidly escalating tensions between Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and United States-linked positions in the Gulf region.
In a significant escalation, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reportedly announced on Saturday that they had carried out attacks on American positions in the Gulf. The statement followed earlier US strikes on Iranian-linked targets, marking what appears to be the first direct exchange of fire since a reported effort to ease tensions in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital waterway, carries a substantial share of global oil shipments daily. Any disruption in this region has historically triggered sharp concerns in global energy markets and raised fears of broader military escalation.
Security analysts say the timing of the tanker incident is particularly sensitive, as it coincides with renewed military activity and retaliatory claims from both sides. However, details remain fragmented, and independent verification of the sequence of events is still ongoing.
While no casualties have been reported, the damage to the vessel has once again highlighted the vulnerability of commercial shipping routes in conflict-prone waters. Shipping agencies have advised vessels operating in the region to exercise extreme caution and maintain heightened security protocols.
