Mercedes-AMG Unveils Electric GT 53 4-Door Coupe With a Twist It Sounds Like an Inline-Six Sports Car

The all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 53 delivers 536 hp, up to 809 km of range, and recreates the sound of a classic AMG inline-six engine.

Mercedes-AMG has introduced the new GT 53 4-Door Coupe, expanding its all-electric performance sedan range with a more accessible variant.

Although positioned as the entry-level model in the lineup, the GT 53 delivers impressive performance, long-range capability, and a unique feature designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts a simulated inline-six engine sound paired with virtual gear shifts.

The latest model replaces the internal combustion version of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, marking another step in Mercedes-AMG’s transition towards electrification.


Performance Remains a Priority

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 is powered by two electric motors that produce a combined output of:

  • 536 hp
  • 800 Nm of peak torque

The performance sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.8 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h.

Although it is less powerful than the flagship GT 55 and GT 63, Mercedes-AMG says the GT 53 strikes a balance between performance and efficiency.


Up to 809 km Driving Range

One of the biggest highlights of the electric GT 53 is its impressive range.

According to WLTP certification, the car can travel up to 809 kilometres on a full charge, making it the longest-range model in Mercedes-AMG’s electric GT portfolio.

The vehicle also supports 600 kW ultra-fast DC charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes.

Mercedes-AMG claims that a quick 10-minute charging session can add up to 534 kilometres of driving range under ideal conditions.


An Electric Car That Sounds Like an Inline-Six

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the GT 53 is its attempt to recreate the emotional experience of driving a petrol-powered performance car.

Unlike the GT 55 and GT 63, which simulate the sound of a V8 engine, the GT 53 reproduces the soundtrack of the previous-generation Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe’s turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine.

To achieve this, Mercedes-AMG engineers recorded the original engine using 16 microphones positioned both inside and outside the vehicle, capturing more than 100 different sound samples under various driving conditions.

The result is a digital sound profile intended to deliver a more authentic and engaging driving experience.


Virtual Gear Shifts Add to the Experience

The simulated engine sound is complemented by virtual gear shifts, which can be controlled using the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

This feature is available when the car is driven in Sport+ mode, giving drivers a sensation similar to changing gears in a traditional performance vehicle despite the absence of a conventional transmission.

The GT 53 also offers multiple driving modes, including:

  • Comfort
  • Sport
  • Sport+
  • Eco
  • Slippery
  • Individual

Its intelligent drivetrain can automatically switch between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive depending on road conditions and available traction.


India Launch Yet to Be Confirmed

Mercedes-AMG has not officially announced plans to launch the GT 53 4-Door Coupe in India.

However, with demand for premium electric vehicles steadily increasing in the country, industry observers believe the performance EV could make its way to the Indian market sometime next year.

If introduced, it would strengthen Mercedes-Benz’s growing electric performance portfolio and offer enthusiasts a unique blend of cutting-edge EV technology with the emotional appeal traditionally associated with AMG models.
