22 years of Lakshya: Farhan Akhtar celebrates Hrithik Roshan’s iconic journey of courage and Self-Discovery
As Lakshya completes 22 years, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and Excel Entertainment revisit the timeless war drama that transformed Hrithik Roshan’s character into one of Bollywood’s most inspiring heroes.
More than two decades after its release, Lakshya continues to hold a special place in the hearts of movie lovers. The acclaimed war drama, directed by Farhan Akhtar and starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, has completed 22 years since its theatrical release, prompting a wave of nostalgia among fans across the country.
To mark the occasion, Excel Entertainment shared a special tribute on social media, celebrating the film’s enduring legacy and reminding audiences why it remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable coming-of-age stories.
The nostalgic video montage featured several iconic moments from the film, accompanied by its powerful title track, Lakshya, a song that continues to inspire generations with its message of determination, purpose, and perseverance.
Released in 2004, Lakshya arrived at a time when patriotic dramas were resonating strongly with Indian audiences. However, what made the film stand out was its unique blend of personal transformation, emotional storytelling, and military action.
At the heart of the story was Karan Shergill, played by Hrithik Roshan, a young man struggling to find direction in life. Aimless and uncertain about his future, Karan eventually joins the Indian Army, where he undergoes a remarkable transformation. Through discipline, courage, and self-belief, he evolves into a determined soldier who leads his team during the Kargil War.
The film also explored themes of love and ambition through Karan’s relationship with Romila Dutta, portrayed by Preity Zinta, a passionate journalist reporting from the conflict zone. Their emotional journey added depth to the narrative, making Lakshya much more than a conventional war film.

Fans flooded social media with messages celebrating the anniversary. Many described the film as an evergreen classic, while others called it one of Hrithik Roshan’s finest performances.
“Peak Bollywood,” wrote one fan, while another described Lakshya as “a timeless masterpiece that still feels relevant today.”

Apart from Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, the film featured an impressive ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Om Puri, and Sushant Singh, all of whom contributed significantly to the film’s emotional and cinematic impact.
The film’s music, composed by the legendary trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, played a major role in its success. Songs such as Lakshya, Main Aisa Kyun Hoon, and Agar Main Kahoon remain fan favourites even today. Interestingly, Farhan Akhtar himself penned the lyrics for several songs, adding another creative dimension to the project.
Twenty-two years later, Lakshya continues to inspire audiences with its powerful message that every individual can find purpose and direction through determination and hard work. Its themes of self-discovery, patriotism, and resilience remain just as meaningful today as they were when the film first hit theatres.
As fans revisit the beloved classic, Lakshya stands as a reminder of an era when storytelling, music, and emotion came together to create a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.
