JNU, DU ask students to avoid NEET protest sites; Rahul Gandhi fires back: ‘How dare you threaten students?

JNU issues advisory amid ongoing NEET-UG protests
As protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak continue across the country, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued an advisory urging students, faculty members and other stakeholders to avoid participating in demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
In its advisory, the university asked members of its academic community to prioritise their personal safety and act responsibly. Referring to the Supreme Court of India’s directions regarding public demonstrations, JNU advised students not to participate in or visit gatherings around Jantar Mantar.
The university also urged students to exercise caution while using social media, warning that violations of applicable laws or the university’s code of conduct could invite legal as well as disciplinary action.
Delhi University reiterates similar warning
Earlier, the University of Delhi (DU) had issued a similar advisory asking students and faculty members to stay away from demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.
The university stated that unlawful assemblies could lead to legal consequences while also posing risks to students’ personal safety, academic progress and future professional opportunities.
DU further cautioned students against misinformation, noting that fake and misleading content was being widely circulated online in connection with the ongoing protests.

Rahul Gandhi criticises university advisories
The advisories triggered a strong political reaction from Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
Reacting to the Delhi University notice, Rahul Gandhi accused the institution of intimidating students for exercising their democratic rights. He questioned the university’s decision to issue what he described as a warning instead of supporting students’ right to express their concerns peacefully.
His remarks have added a political dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the nationwide protests.
NEET-UG protests intensify across India
The demonstrations stem from allegations surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination, with students demanding greater accountability and reforms in the examination system.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has intensified its campaign over the issue, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and calling for wider reforms in the examination process.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly assured students that strict action would be taken against those found responsible for the alleged paper leak.
Judiciary and government continue to monitor developments
The issue is also being closely monitored by the judiciary.
The Delhi High Court has announced the creation of fast-track courts to hear cases related to examination paper leaks, with the aim of ensuring quicker disposal of matters linked to the controversy.
As protests continue in different parts of the country, educational institutions, political leaders and courts remain actively engaged in addressing both student concerns and examination reforms, making the NEET-UG paper leak one of the most closely watched public issues in India.
