India have received a significant boost ahead of their crucial ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 campaign after premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was declared fit for the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka.

The 32-year-old pace spearhead has successfully cleared the mandatory fitness assessment conducted at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, ending concerns over his availability for the two-match Test series beginning next month.

Bumrah had been included in India’s Test squad subject to fitness after suffering an impact injury during the recently concluded ODI series against England. The injury forced him to miss the third ODI at Lord’s, where India eventually lost the series 2-1.

According to reports, the Indian team management is now optimistic that Bumrah will be available for both Test matches in Sri Lanka, providing a major boost to an injury-hit bowling unit.

Bumrah’s Return Comes at the Perfect Time

India’s pace attack has been dealing with multiple injury setbacks in recent weeks. Harshit Rana has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Nitish Kumar Reddy continues his recovery from a quadriceps issue.

The problems don’t end there. Washington Sundar will miss the opening Test because of a hamstring injury, and fast bowler Akash Deep remains unavailable as he recovers from stress reactions in his back.

With several key players unavailable, Bumrah’s return offers much-needed experience and leadership to India’s bowling attack, especially in conditions where disciplined pace bowling can play a decisive role.

The two-Test series will begin on August 15 in Galle, while the second and final Test is scheduled to be played in Colombo from August 23.

The series carries massive importance for India’s World Test Championship ambitions. Having already suffered four defeats in their first nine matches of the current WTC cycle, India have little room for error.

To stay firmly in contention for a place in the WTC Final, the two-time finalists are believed to need victories in seven of their remaining nine Tests. That makes a clean sweep against Sri Lanka extremely valuable before India travel to New Zealand for what is expected to be one of their toughest overseas assignments of the cycle.
