India Announce Injury-Hit Test Squad for Sri Lanka Series: Shubman Gill to Lead as Several Stars Face Fitness Race
The BCCI has unveiled a 15-member squad for the two-Test series in Sri Lanka, with injuries forcing changes and several key players still awaiting medical clearance.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill set to captain an injury-hit side.
The squad features a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, but injuries have significantly influenced the selectors’ choices. Several regular members of the Indian Test setup are unavailable, while a few players included in the squad are still awaiting final fitness clearance before taking the field.
Gill to Lead India’s New-Look Squad
Continuing his leadership role in the longest format, Shubman Gill has been entrusted with captaining the side, while KL Rahul has been named vice-captain. The series presents another important opportunity for Gill to establish himself as India’s long-term Test leader.

The batting unit also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, giving India a mix of youth and experience.
Fitness Concerns Remain
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the squad is the fitness of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, whose participation remains subject to medical clearance. The Indian team management is expected to monitor his recovery closely before confirming his availability.
With multiple first-choice players unavailable due to injuries, the selectors have opted to strengthen the squad with additional pace and spin options.

Spin and Pace Attack
India’s spin department will be led by experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar, giving the visitors multiple options in conditions expected to assist spin bowling.
The pace attack includes Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and potentially Jasprit Bumrah, should he receive medical clearance before the series begins.
Opportunity for Emerging Players
The squad also provides opportunities for younger cricketers to make an impact at the highest level. Players like Sai Sudharsan, Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, and Saransh Jain will be eager to impress if given a chance during the series.
With several senior players unavailable, strong performances could strengthen their case for regular selection in India’s Test setup.
