India Coaching Shake-Up? Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel Reportedly Ready to Quit After Series Setbacks… BCCI Eyes Big Changes
Following India’s disappointing run against Ireland and England, reports suggest key members of the coaching staff could step down, with the BCCI expected to review the team’s support structure ahead of future assignments.
New Delhi: India’s recent struggles in international cricket may soon trigger significant changes behind the scenes. Following a disappointing run that saw the team suffer six defeats against Ireland and England, fresh reports indicate that two senior members of the coaching staff are considering stepping away from their roles.
According to media reports, Ryan ten Doeschate, the Indian team’s assistant coach, and bowling coach Morne Morkel are unlikely to continue beyond their current contracts, which are set to conclude after the upcoming ODI series against England.
While there has been no official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the developments have fueled speculation about a major reshuffle within the national team’s coaching setup.
Why Are the Coaches Reportedly Considering an Exit?
Reports suggest that Ryan ten Doeschate has expressed concerns over the demanding international calendar and the extensive travel associated with the role. The packed schedule has reportedly taken a toll, making him reluctant to commit to another tenure.
The reasons behind Morne Morkel’s reported decision remain unclear. However, sources indicate that the former South African fast bowler is also not inclined to extend his stay with the Indian team after his current contract expires.

If both departures materialise, India could lose two experienced figures who have played important roles in the team’s preparation and development.
Fielding Coach Also Under the Scanner
The spotlight is also on fielding coach T. Dilip, whose position is reportedly being reviewed following India’s inconsistent fielding performances in recent months.
T. Dilip was initially part of the coaching setup led by Rahul Dravid. Although there were expectations that he would move on after changes in the support staff, he was retained in 2025 following the intervention of then-captain Rohit Sharma, who reportedly valued his strong rapport with the squad.
However, with India’s fielding standards drawing criticism, his future with the national team is now believed to be under review.

Lakshmipathy Balaji Emerges as a Strong Contender
Should Morne Morkel step down, former India pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji is reportedly among the leading candidates to take over as bowling coach.
Balaji currently serves as a full-time fast bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he works closely with India’s emerging pace bowlers.
His responsibilities include mentoring bowlers in the national and India A setup, assisting with technical improvements, overseeing workload management, and coordinating rehabilitation programmes alongside the academy’s medical team.
Having previously represented India at the highest level, Balaji is viewed as someone who understands both modern fast bowling and the expectations of the national team’s management.
BCCI Faces Crucial Decisions
The coming weeks could prove significant for Indian cricket as the BCCI evaluates the team’s recent performances and the effectiveness of its coaching structure.
Any changes to the support staff would be part of a broader effort to rebuild momentum and ensure the team is better prepared for upcoming international tournaments.
For now, the reports remain unconfirmed, but they have undoubtedly intensified discussions about the future direction of India’s coaching setup.
