Hardik Pandya’s IPL future has become a major talking point, with seven franchises reportedly interested in the Mumbai Indians all-rounder.

Hardik Pandya has become the centre of a major transfer debate ahead of the IPL 2027 season. Following Mumbai Indians’ disappointing 2026 campaign, reports have suggested that several franchises are interested in acquiring the India all-rounder if MI decide to move him on.

According to reports, as many as seven IPL franchises have expressed interest in Pandya. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) among the teams linked with the star all-rounder. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are reportedly the two franchises that have not shown interest.

However, it is important to note that no official trade has been confirmed, and Mumbai Indians’ final decision on Pandya’s future remains crucial. Recent reports indicate that MI have yet to take a definitive position on whether they will retain or trade their captain.

Why are so many teams interested in Hardik Pandya?

The biggest attraction is simple: Hardik offers a rare combination of Indian batting, pace bowling and leadership experience.

A genuine Indian seam-bowling all-rounder is extremely valuable in the IPL because such a player can strengthen both the batting and bowling departments while also providing flexibility when teams construct their playing XI.

Pandya has also captained an IPL franchise before, leading Gujarat Titans to the title in 2022 before returning to Mumbai Indians through a high-profile trade ahead of the 2024 season.

CSK enter the race

Chennai Super Kings are among the most intriguing teams reportedly interested in Pandya.

CSK’s interest has added another dimension to the transfer story, particularly because the franchise is entering a new phase following the end of the MS Dhoni era as its central leadership figure.

Reports have suggested that Pandya could fit CSK’s plans because of his all-round abilities and experience. However, whether he would automatically become captain is far from certain.

KKR could offer a leadership role

Kolkata Knight Riders have also been strongly linked with Pandya.

One reason KKR could be an attractive destination is the possibility of a significant leadership role. Reports have previously suggested that KKR could consider Pandya for the captaincy if a deal with Mumbai Indians materialises.

That could make the franchise particularly appealing if Pandya’s priority is not simply a change of team but also another opportunity to lead.

Rajasthan Royals also interested

Rajasthan Royals are another franchise reportedly in the race.

The Royals have traditionally invested in players who can contribute in multiple areas, and Pandya’s ability to influence matches with both bat and ball makes him an obvious high-profile target.

A potential move would also give Rajasthan another experienced Indian match-winner to build around.

What could happen at Mumbai Indians?

The biggest question remains with Mumbai Indians.

Pandya returned to the franchise in 2024 after spending two successful seasons with Gujarat Titans. His return was followed by his appointment as captain, replacing Rohit Sharma.

However, MI have struggled to find consistency during the period since his return, and their 2026 campaign ended with the franchise finishing ninth, according to reports. That has intensified questions surrounding the team’s next steps.

At the same time, Pandya remains a valuable player because of his scarcity in Indian cricket. This means MI would need to carefully assess what they could receive in return before agreeing to a trade.

A blockbuster IPL trade could be coming

The Hardik Pandya situation has all the ingredients of a major IPL transfer story: a high-profile Indian all-rounder, a five-time champion franchise, multiple interested teams and questions over leadership.

But despite the growing speculation, the final decision rests with Mumbai Indians and Pandya.

For now, CSK, KKR and RR are among the names attracting the most attention, while reports indicate that the wider list includes seven franchises.

If Mumbai Indians eventually approve a trade, Pandya’s next destination could become one of the biggest talking points of the IPL 2027 build-up.
