Govind Namdev Distances Himself From ‘Kala Hiran’ Row, Says “I Would Never Do A Film Against Salman Khan”
Veteran actor Govind Namdev claims he was “kept in the dark” about the actual concept of Kala Hiran, while Salman Khan moves Delhi High Court over alleged personality rights violation.
The controversy surrounding the upcoming film Kala Hiran has intensified after veteran actor Govind Namdev publicly distanced himself from the project and expressed support for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The actor recently stated that he was unaware of the film’s actual narrative and would never intentionally participate in a project targeting Salman Khan.
The issue erupted after the makers of Kala Hiran released the film’s first-look teaser on June 12. The promotional video quickly sparked discussions online due to apparent similarities between one of the characters and Salman Khan, especially in terms of styling, accessories, and overall appearance. The film is reportedly inspired by the infamous 1998 blackbuck poaching case linked to the actor.
Govind Namdev, who plays a lawyer representing justice for the Bishnoi community in the film, admitted that he felt shocked after watching the teaser. According to him, the project shown in the promotional material was completely different from what had originally been narrated during filming.
Speaking about his reaction, Namdev revealed that he immediately sensed something was wrong after seeing the teaser. He said he had only agreed to participate because he believed the film would focus on courtroom proceedings and factual incidents already available in public records.
The veteran actor explained that the project was initially introduced to him under the title Sambhal. He was reportedly informed that his role involved only courtroom sequences and that no fictionalised or controversial elements would be added to the narrative.
Namdev clarified that he had no knowledge about a character allegedly resembling Salman Khan being created for the film. Stressing his respect for the superstar, he said he would never knowingly work in a movie that attempted to portray Salman negatively.
The actor also addressed conversations around the Bishnoi gang, stating clearly that he does not support or glorify any criminal organisation. He added that the recent developments surrounding the film have made him uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking a stay on the release of Kala Hiran. According to reports, Salman’s legal team argued that the teaser and promotional material contain obvious references to the actor and violate his legally protected personality rights.

The plea reportedly points out that the character in the teaser wears a bracelet and styling strongly associated with Salman Khan, potentially misleading audiences and damaging his public image. The matter is scheduled for hearing on June 19.

Despite the controversy, the makers of Kala Hiran have maintained that the film is fictional. A disclaimer attached to the teaser states that all characters and incidents portrayed are imaginary and that any resemblance to real individuals is purely coincidental. However, the makers have also acknowledged that the film draws inspiration from the 1998 blackbuck poaching incident near Jodhpur.
With legal proceedings now underway and Govind Namdev openly distancing himself from the project, Kala Hiran has already become one of the most talked-about unreleased films in Bollywood. Whether the film will eventually reach theatres remains uncertain, but the controversy has undoubtedly placed it under intense public scrutiny.
