Diljit Dosanjh Breaks Silence on Green Card Rumours, Speaks Out After ‘Satluj’ Removal: “News Ban Jayegi…”

Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has finally addressed the long-running rumours surrounding a possible Green Card, while also speaking candidly about the abrupt removal of his film Satluj from streaming platform ZEE5.

During an emotional and often humorous Instagram Live session on Monday, Diljit thanked fans for their overwhelming support for the film, which was taken down from ZEE5 only two days after its quiet digital release.

The live interaction quickly caught attention when a fan suggested that the actor should “get a Green Card.” Responding in his trademark witty style, Diljit joked that he would simply take a card and paint it green.

Without directly engaging with the speculation, he remarked that any further comment would instantly become headline news. He also shared a broader view on global mobility, saying that ideally people should be able to travel freely across countries without visa restrictions, although he acknowledged that such a reality remains far from possible.

According to the actor, this uncertainty was one of the reasons why the makers chose not to launch a large-scale promotional campaign. Instead, the film was released quietly, allowing audiences to discover it organically.

He noted that despite its brief availability, the film had succeeded in sparking conversations about Jaswant Singh Khalra, the noted human rights activist whose work forms the basis of the story.

According to him, the project faced repeated delays over several years. Production hurdles, post-production complications, and prolonged uncertainty reportedly kept the film from reaching viewers for a long time.

The actor noted that multiple members of the creative team invested years of their lives into completing the project, making its eventual release particularly meaningful.

Why Was ‘Satluj’ Removed From ZEE5?

Originally developed under the title Punjab 95, the film has faced regulatory and certification challenges for several years.

The project was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2022 but reportedly did not receive clearance. Earlier reports had suggested that the filmmakers were asked to implement a large number of cuts before approval could be considered.

The film was also expected to be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. However, the screening did not go ahead after objections were reportedly raised.

Despite these hurdles, Satluj was quietly released on ZEE5 on July 3. The film quickly generated discussion among critics and audiences, but within 48 hours it was removed from the platform.

In a statement issued after the takedown, ZEE5 said it continued to support the film but stated that, due to current developments, the title was temporarily unavailable for streaming. The platform did not disclose any further details regarding the decision.

As debate surrounding the film continues, Diljit’s latest remarks have once again brought attention to both the controversy and the larger conversation that Satluj seeks to ignite.
