‘I Didn’t Even Start the Protest’: Dhurandhar Actress Ayesha Khan Claims She Was Detained by Mumbai Police, Shares Emotional Videos That Raise Questions

Mumbai: Actress Ayesha Khan, known for her upcoming film Dhurandhar, has alleged that she was detained by the Mumbai Police during a protest-related situation on July 22, claiming she had done nothing more than stand peacefully on a public road.

The actress shared a series of emotional videos and photographs on Instagram, documenting what she described as her unexpected detention. In one of the clips recorded from inside a police van, Ayesha appeared visibly shaken and claimed that she was taken into custody despite not participating in any demonstration.

“My hands are shivering right now. I have been detained in a police van for just standing on the road peacefully. I didn’t say a word. I didn’t even start the protest,” she said in the video.

According to Ayesha, she had remained at the location because her brother and several male friends had already been detained. She insisted that she was neither leading nor actively participating in the protest but was simply present when police officers approached her.

The actress also recorded footage from inside the police vehicle, showing several other detainees. She questioned why everyone had been taken into custody without any clear explanation from the authorities.

In another Instagram story, Ayesha shared photographs of police personnel along with the hashtag #AccountabilityWhere, expressing disappointment over what she described as the lack of transparency surrounding the detention.

Another video uploaded by the actress captured someone asking police officers where the detainees were being taken. According to the videos shared online, no immediate response was provided by the officials, leaving those inside the vehicle uncertain about their destination.

One of the most widely circulated clips shows multiple women police personnel escorting and pushing Ayesha into the police van as she appeared to resist the action. Reacting to the incident, the actress questioned the necessity of such force.

“Unfortunately, it took four police women to pull me in. But I ask the same question again, why? Did I make a noise? Did I even start a conversation? Detained me for what? For standing on the road?” she wrote alongside another video.

Ayesha also clarified that she was not even part of a gathering that could be classified as an unlawful assembly. She maintained that she had not violated any law and was only present at the location when the police intervened.

The incident comes amid ongoing demonstrations linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and a group of young protesters, whose campaign has attracted attention on social media in recent days.

Beyond documenting her own experience, Ayesha urged the media to focus on issues she believes deserve greater public attention. Sharing a social media post by actor Omi Vaidya, she appealed to journalists and photographers to report on the incident.

“We are so lost in glamour, beauty, and controversies that we often ignore the things that truly need our attention,” she wrote, urging the media to raise awareness about what she described as an important public issue.

As of now, Mumbai Police has not publicly responded to the specific allegations made by Ayesha Khan in her Instagram stories. It also remains unclear whether any formal charges were filed against those detained during the incident.

The videos have since gone viral across social media platforms, triggering widespread discussion about peaceful protests, police accountability, and the balance between maintaining public order and protecting citizens’ rights.
