Delhi Capitals batter Ashutosh Sharma has joined Hampshire for the 2026 One-Day Cup, marking his first stint in English county cricket.

Delhi Capitals power-hitter Ashutosh Sharma is set to begin a new chapter in his cricketing journey after signing with English county side Hampshire for the 2026 One-Day Cup.

The 27-year-old Indian all-rounder, who has earned a reputation as one of the Indian Premier League (IPL)‘s most destructive finishers, will remain with Hampshire throughout the tournament. The move also strengthens the growing cricketing connection between the two franchises, with the GMR Group serving as a co-owner of both Delhi Capitals and Hampshire.

Hampshire Back Ashutosh’s Potential

Announcing the signing, Hampshire expressed confidence in Ashutosh’s ability to make an impact in English domestic cricket.

Director of Cricket Giles White praised the Indian batter’s performances in the IPL and described him as a player with immense promise.”We’re really pleased to sign Ashutosh for the One-Day Cup. He is a player of great potential and has done well for Delhi Capitals in the IPL recently. We look forward to welcoming him into the group and seeing what he can do in a Hampshire shirt.”

The county side finished runners-up in last year’s competition and will hope the addition of the explosive middle-order batter helps them go one step further this season.

IPL Performances Earned Him Recognition

Although Ashutosh Sharma is yet to make his international debut for India, his rise through the IPL has attracted widespread attention.

After making his IPL debut with Punjab Kings in 2024, he moved to Delhi Capitals, where he established himself as a reliable finisher capable of changing games in just a few overs.

Across 26 IPL innings, Ashutosh has scored 564 runs at a remarkable strike rate of nearly 170, including two half-centuries, highlighting his ability to score quickly under pressure.

List A Record Offers Fresh Challenge

While his T20 credentials are impressive, Ashutosh will now have an opportunity to prove himself in the List A format.

The right-handed batter has featured in 21 List A matches, scoring 458 runs at an average of 24.10 and an attacking strike rate of 131.60.

He also contributes as a useful part-time bowler, having taken two wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 6.27 across limited bowling opportunities.

Performing consistently in England’s 50-over competition could strengthen his credentials for higher honours in Indian cricket.

Before heading to England, Ashutosh Sharma represented Malwa Stallions in the Madhya Pradesh League T20, where he continued to showcase his all-round abilities.

He accumulated 165 runs in nine innings at a strike rate exceeding 150, while also claiming seven wickets during the tournament.

Although his bowling economy remained on the higher side, his ability to contribute in both departments adds valuable depth to Hampshire’s squad.

Hampshire Begin Campaign Against Yorkshire

Hampshire, who have been placed in Group B of the One-Day Cup, will begin their campaign against Yorkshire.

It remains to be seen whether Ashutosh will make an immediate appearance in the playing XI, but expectations are high that the Indian batter can bring the same fearless approach that has made him one of the IPL’s emerging finishers.

For Ashutosh Sharma, the county stint represents more than just another domestic assignment—it offers a valuable opportunity to gain overseas experience, refine his 50-over game and continue building his case for future selection at the international level.
