Arshad Warsi Says Circuit Could Never Be in Golmaal | Pritam and Pedro Interview
Arshad Warsi says every comedy character has its own identity, explaining why Circuit from Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. could never fit into the world of Golmaal.

Mumbai: Arshad Warsi has given Bollywood some of its most unforgettable comic characters, from the lovable Circuit in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. to Madhav in the Golmaal franchise and Adi in Dhamaal. But according to the actor, the secret behind making each role memorable is simple never treat two characters the same.

Ahead of the release of his upcoming series Pritam and Pedro, Arshad spoke about why every comedy role requires its own personality and why iconic characters cannot simply be placed into another film universe.

‘Circuit Would Never Fit Into Golmaal’

Reflecting on his approach to comedy, Arshad explained that he never consciously tries to make one role different from another. Instead, he believes the distinction comes naturally from the script and the filmmaker’s vision.

The actor said every character is shaped by the world they belong to and must remain faithful to that universe.

Using Circuit as an example, Arshad remarked that the beloved character from Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. could never work in the Golmaal franchise because the humour, dialogue, mindset and storytelling style are entirely different.

According to him, every character occupies its own “sacred space,” and actors should avoid forcing one personality into another story simply because audiences love the role.

Rajkumar Hirani’s Comedy Is Different

Arshad also reunited with filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani for Pritam and Pedro, and he believes Hirani’s style of comedy stands apart from traditional slapstick entertainers.

He shared that Hirani creates humour by introducing subtle comic moments into emotionally intense situations rather than relying on loud punchlines or exaggerated performances.

According to Arshad, many scenes from Hirani’s films could easily be presented as serious dramas, but the filmmaker’s ability to add gentle humour transforms the emotional impact without taking away from the story.

The actor hinted that audiences will experience a similar storytelling style in Pritam and Pedro, where serious situations unfold alongside light-hearted moments that emerge naturally from the characters.

The Day Arshad Forgot How to Be Circuit

During the launch event of the upcoming project, Rajkumar Hirani recalled an amusing incident from the sets of Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

The filmmaker revealed that when shooting began several years after Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Arshad initially struggled to reconnect with Circuit’s mannerisms.

Hirani noticed something felt different in the performance and pointed it out. Arshad himself agreed before taking an unusual step he watched scenes from the first film inside his vanity van to rediscover the character.

After revisiting his earlier performance, he returned to the set and immediately slipped back into Circuit’s familiar personality.

‘I Forget Every Character After Finishing a Film’

Arshad admitted that forgetting his previous roles is actually an important part of his acting process.

He explained that once a project is completed, he deliberately clears his mind of that character so he can fully embrace the next role without carrying old habits into a new performance.

What’s Next for Arshad Warsi?

Following his appearance in Welcome to the Jungle, Arshad will headline Pritam and Pedro, directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Rajkumar Hirani.

The crime-comedy series also stars Vir Hirani and Vikrant Massey. The story follows Pedro Gonsalves, a traditional Goan police officer, who teams up with young cyber expert Pritam to investigate a complex digital kidnapping orchestrated by a skilled cybercriminal.

Blending comedy, crime and generational differences, the series promises to showcase another fresh side of Arshad Warsi while reinforcing the philosophy that has defined his career every character deserves its own unique identity.
