Mahima Makwana Opens Up About Years of Rejection Before Musafir Cafe… ‘Nothing Can Replace Hard Work, I Manifested This Role’
The actress reflects on her journey from child artiste to OTT star, sharing how perseverance, discipline, and self-belief shaped her career and helped her connect with her latest role in Netflix’s Musafir Cafe.
Mahima Makwana has opened up about the challenges, rejections, and lessons that shaped her acting career ahead of the release of Netflix’s Musafir Cafe. Starring alongside Vikrant Massey and Vedika Pinto, the actress says every phase of her journey from childhood auditions to professional setbacks has played a crucial role in making her the performer she is today.
In a recent interview, Mahima shared that acting was never initially planned as a lifelong profession. Instead, her passion for performing gradually evolved into a desire to be part of meaningful stories.“I wasn’t looking at this as a full-fledged profession. I only enjoyed being in front of the camera. Over time, I realised I wanted to be part of stories that truly mattered,” she said.
‘Nothing Can Replace Hard Work’
Looking back on the uncertainties of the entertainment industry, Mahima Makwana emphasised that perseverance and discipline have been her biggest strengths.“Nothing can replace hard work and intent. You have to stay disciplined because there will always be good and bad days,” she shared.
The actress recalled balancing school, auditions, and work while growing up, saying those experiences taught her resilience and helped her appreciate every opportunity that came her way.
She also admitted that periods without work were emotionally challenging, but today she views those moments as valuable life lessons rather than disappointments.
A Journey Built on Strength
Mahima credited her mother, Meena Makwana, for supporting her throughout her career and helping her navigate the industry’s challenges from a young age.
Reflecting on becoming the family’s earning member early in life, the actress said she chooses to remember her journey with gratitude instead of regret.

According to Mahima, the sacrifices she and her mother made helped shape both her career and personal outlook, giving her the confidence to face future challenges.
Why She Didn’t Read the Original Novel
Although Musafir Cafe is inspired by Divya Prakash Dubey’s bestselling novel, Mahima deliberately avoided reading the book before filming.
She explained that she wanted to interpret her character independently without being influenced by the original text.
The actress also clarified that the series is not a scene-by-scene adaptation, but rather an expanded version of the story with several changes to the characters and their relationships.

‘Preeti Was a Role I Manifested’
Mahima revealed that she instantly connected with her character Preeti, describing it as a role she had unknowingly been waiting for.“I fell in love with the character when it was offered to me because I think I subconsciously manifested it,” she said.
She added that what attracted her most was Preeti’s strong sense of individuality, explaining that the character values independence without seeking external validation.
From Television to OTT Success
Born in Mumbai on August 5, 1999, Mahima Makwana began her acting career as a child artiste in television shows such as Miley Jab Hum Tum and Balika Vadhu.
She later gained widespread recognition through Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke before making her Bollywood debut in Antim: The Final Truth alongside Salman Khan in 2021.
Since then, Mahima has continued to build her career with successful OTT projects, including Tumse Na Ho Payega, Showtime, and now Musafir Cafe, further establishing herself as one of the promising young actors in the industry.
