Tom Holland has finally opened up about the viral story involving Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, revealing that the football superstar never responded to his invitation for dinner.

Speaking during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Holland looked back on the awkward exchange with humour, calling it a reminder that even Hollywood stars can be left on “read.”

While promoting his upcoming film The Odyssey, Tom Holland shared how he decided to reach out to Haaland after spotting him during the Monaco Grand Prix.

Recalling the incident, the actor joked that it was a valuable lesson in humility.

Holland said he thought inviting the Norwegian striker to dinner would be a fun idea, but he never received any reply.

According to the actor, there wasn’t even a message explaining that Haaland was busy.

Laughing about the episode, Holland admitted he never imagined the story would become a talking point on national television.

Despite the unanswered invitation, he described Haaland as an “incredible” footballer and praised his achievements on the pitch.

How the misunderstanding happened

The story first made headlines after Erling Haaland explained why he ignored the message.

Speaking on a Norwegian television programme, the striker admitted he did not recognise the sender because he rarely watches movies.

Haaland revealed that he saw a message from an unknown number inviting him to dinner but chose not to respond, believing it was from someone he didn’t know.

After later discovering that the message had come from Tom Holland, the footballer laughed off the misunderstanding and admitted he had completely forgotten about it.
