‘You’ll Find Out’: US launches strikes on Iran after drone attack in strait of Hormuz, Trump warns tehran

Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply on Friday after the US military carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian military infrastructure following a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military action came just a day after the commercial vessel was reportedly targeted by a drone in one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, raising fresh concerns about maritime security and regional stability.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces struck multiple Iranian military positions, including missile launch sites, drone facilities, and coastal radar installations. The operation was described as a direct response to the attack on the cargo ship, which Washington viewed as a breach of the recent understanding aimed at reducing hostilities in the region.

Before the strikes were launched, US President Donald Trump hinted that a response was imminent. When asked by reporters whether the United States would retaliate, Trump responded simply, “You’ll find out.”

Later, the President said the drone attack represented a violation of the ceasefire arrangement that had been intended to ease months of rising tensions between Washington and Tehran and improve security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global oil shipments.

Iran, however, pushed back against the US position. Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, issued a message on social media stressing Iran’s authority over the strategic waterway.

He wrote that the Strait of Hormuz is governed by Iran and urged Washington to “respect the rules”, while cautioning the United States against confusing Iran’s control of the area with an act of escalation.

According to a US official familiar with the operation, the military strikes lasted for approximately one hour before concluding. The official, speaking anonymously because of the sensitive nature of the mission, confirmed that the operation ended shortly after US Central Command publicly announced the strikes.

The latest confrontation marks one of the most serious setbacks to recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing military tensions between the two countries. It also raises fresh concerns about the security of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway through which a significant portion of the world’s energy supplies passes each day.

Global markets and regional governments are expected to closely monitor developments, as any prolonged disruption in the Gulf could have wider implications for international trade, oil prices, and geopolitical stability.

While the immediate military operation has concluded, the exchange has heightened fears that the fragile calm between the United States and Iran may once again give way to a broader regional confrontation.
