“You Won’t Have a Country”: Trump’s Explosive Warning to Iran During Secret Switzerland Talks Raises Global Alarm

A new diplomatic effort to cool tensions in the Middle East took a dramatic turn after US President Donald Trump issued a blunt and controversial warning to Iran, threatening severe consequences if Tehran moved ahead with plans to block the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking during a phone interview with Fox News, Trump reportedly told Iranian officials, “You close the Strait of Hormuz and you won’t have a country.” The statement, loaded with sharp rhetoric, came while American and Iranian representatives were in Switzerland for critical negotiations aimed at preventing a wider regional conflict.

The talks, led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, mark the first direct engagement between the two nations after weeks of rising hostilities.

The discussions began amid heightened fears following Iran’s announcement that it could shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.

Iran’s move came as a response to escalating Israeli military strikes in Lebanon, which Tehran claims threaten regional stability.

At the heart of the talks is a growing concern over the impact of the conflict on global energy markets. Oil prices have surged sharply since the conflict reignited on February 28, triggering economic concerns across the world, especially in the United States, where rising fuel prices have added pressure on the White House.

According to a joint statement from mediators Pakistan and Qatar, the first round of negotiations concluded with an agreement to establish a communication line between Washington and Tehran.

The purpose of this direct line is to prevent misunderstandings and ensure safe commercial movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a move seen as crucial for stabilising oil markets.

However, Trump’s aggressive comments during the negotiations have added uncertainty to the fragile diplomatic process.

In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump also warned Iran to rein in Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, threatening stronger military action if attacks continue.

“If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder,” Trump wrote.

Iran responded sharply.

Chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf pushed back against Trump’s remarks, warning that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond.

“They would do better to be careful with their statements. No matter what they say, we are the ones who act,” Ghalibaf said.

The exchange has further intensified fears of a larger military confrontation in the region, even as diplomatic channels remain open.

With the Strait of Hormuz acting as one of the world’s most important oil chokepoints, any disruption could have immediate consequences on fuel prices, global trade, and geopolitical stability.

For now, the communication line offers a narrow path toward de-escalation — but Trump’s hardline stance and Iran’s defiant response suggest the road ahead remains uncertain.
