Bandar Box Office Day 7: Anurag Kashyap–Bobby Deol Film Crashes to ₹20 Lakh, Struggles to Survive Week One
Despite critical praise, the legal drama fails to gain momentum amid stiff competition and limited screens
The box office journey of Bandar continues to disappoint, as the film struggles to maintain momentum even after completing its first week in theatres.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Bobby Deol, the film has witnessed a sharp decline in collections, with Day 7 earnings dropping to just ₹20 lakh, marking its lowest single-day total so far.
Collections continue to dip midweek
According to industry estimates, Bandar opened with a modest ₹50 lakh on its first day. The film showed slight improvement over the weekend, earning ₹95 lakh on Saturday and peaking at around ₹1 crore on Sunday.
However, the momentum proved short-lived. As weekdays began, collections steadily declined, with the film earning ₹45 lakh on both Monday and Tuesday before plunging to ₹20 lakh midweek. The same trend continued on Thursday, taking the total domestic net collection to approximately ₹3.60 crore after seven days.
Despite being screened across around 820 shows nationwide, the film has failed to attract consistent footfall.
A niche film battling tough competition
Trade analysts suggest that Bandar is facing significant challenges due to its niche subject and strong competition at the box office. The film is currently up against major domestic releases like Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona and Peddi, both of which are drawing larger audiences.

Additionally, several international films have also hit theatres simultaneously, further reducing screen availability for Bandar. Reports indicate that even before its release, the makers struggled to secure adequate screens from major multiplex chains like PVR Cinemas, INOX Leisure, and Cinepolis India.
What is ‘Bandar’ about?
Based on real-life events, Bandar tells the story of Samar, played by Bobby Deol—a fading singer-actor whose life spirals into chaos after being accused of rape by a woman named Gayatri.

While Samar insists the relationship was consensual, he becomes the centre of a media storm and a prolonged legal battle. The film explores themes of media trials, public perception, and the justice system, offering a gritty look at how reputations can be shaped—and destroyed—in the public eye.
The ensemble cast also includes Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, Raj B. Shetty, and Indrajith Sukumaran in key roles.
Can the film recover?
With declining numbers and limited audience reach, Bandar faces an uphill battle at the box office. While critical acclaim has worked in its favour, the film’s serious tone and competition-heavy release window appear to have limited its commercial appeal.
Whether the film can recover in the coming days or fade out quietly remains to be seen.
