Peddi Inches Closer to ₹200 Crore But Slows Down, Can Ram Charan’s Film Regain Momentum This Weekend?

The box office journey of Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, is beginning to show signs of fatigue after a powerful opening week. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the sports action drama had initially stormed the box office but is now witnessing a steady decline in collections.

According to trade estimates from Sacnilk, the film earned approximately ₹5.66 crore on Day 8 (Thursday), pushing its total domestic collection to ₹192.91 crore. While the numbers remain impressive, the film is yet to cross the crucial ₹200 crore mark, a milestone that once seemed inevitable given its strong opening.

Weekday Dip Raises Concerns

After opening to a massive ₹51 crore, along with ₹18.50 crore from premieres, Peddi showed solid growth over its first weekend. The film collected ₹26.90 crore on Friday, ₹29.10 crore on Saturday, and peaked at ₹32.15 crore on Sunday.

However, as expected, the momentum slowed during weekdays. Monday saw earnings drop to ₹12.35 crore, followed by ₹9.70 crore on Tuesday and ₹7.55 crore on Wednesday. The downward trend continued into Thursday, raising questions about the film’s long-term box office stamina.

Still a Strong Performer in Telugu Market

Despite the dip, Peddi continues to perform significantly better in the Telugu market compared to Hindi circuits. The film has already emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year and one of the top South Indian hits, surpassing films like Karuppu.

It has also outperformed Game Changer, which had collected ₹120.40 crore in eight days. However, it still trails behind the benchmark set by RRR, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, which had crossed ₹500 crore in the same period.

Controversy & Mixed Reception

While the film initially received praise for its compelling narrative, it soon found itself surrounded by controversy, particularly over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character. This backlash appears to have impacted its momentum to some extent.

Veteran actor Jagapathi Babu addressed the criticism during a press conference, stating:
“To everybody, once again, thanks… and to those who wrote bad reviews, I thank you even more. Because you have unknowingly helped us a lot.”

About the Film

Peddi tells the inspiring story of a determined “aata coolie” — a player for hire — who fights for the identity and dignity of his people. Set in a village lacking even a name, the protagonist uses sports as a powerful tool to make his voice heard, transitioning from cricket to wrestling and eventually sprinting.

The film also features an ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani, adding depth to its narrative.
