Vicky Kaushal Gained 12 Kg, Lost 15 Kg for ‘Love & War’… Inside His Extreme Transformation for Bhansali’s Epic

Vicky Kaushal is known for going all in when it comes to preparing for his roles, and his upcoming film ‘Love & War’ seems to be no exception. The actor has reportedly undergone one of his most intense physical transformations yet for filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious period drama.

The much-awaited film, which has been in production for over two years, is now said to be nearing completion. While the makers have maintained complete secrecy around the plot, fresh reports reveal that Vicky had to portray two distinct phases of his character — and that meant drastically changing his physique.

According to sources close to the production, the actor first gained nearly 12 kilograms to fit the initial look of his role. Later, as the story moved towards its climax, Vicky followed a strict and demanding fitness regime to shed around 15 kilograms, showcasing his dedication to authenticity.

A source from the production shared that Vicky remained deeply committed throughout the transformation process and pushed himself physically to match the character’s journey on screen.

‘Love & War’ has already become one of the most talked-about films in Bollywood, not only because of its massive scale but also due to its star-studded cast. The film brings together Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in a powerful trio under Bhansali’s direction.

Reports suggest the film is set in a period backdrop, blending romance, war, and aviation into a larger-than-life cinematic experience. Both Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal are believed to be playing Air Force pilots, adding another layer of intrigue to the storyline.

The secrecy surrounding the project has been unprecedented. Industry insiders reveal that the makers have implemented strict anti-leak measures, with over 500 Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) signed by cast and crew members to keep the film’s visuals and story under wraps.

This marks Vicky Kaushal’s first collaboration with Bhansali, making it a major milestone in his career. For Alia Bhatt, it’s her second outing with the celebrated filmmaker after the blockbuster ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, while Ranbir Kapoor reunites with Bhansali after his debut film ‘Saawariya’.

Originally planned for a Summer 2026 release, the film’s schedule was pushed due to its grand production scale. Now, ‘Love & War’ is officially set to hit theatres on January 21, 2027, strategically arriving just before the Republic Day weekend.

With intense transformations, top-tier star power, and Bhansali’s signature storytelling, ‘Love & War’ is shaping up to be one of Bollywood’s biggest cinematic events of 2027.
