In a remarkable gesture that highlights both responsibility and care, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted a special allowance for 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, permitting his parents to accompany him during India’s upcoming T20 tours of Ireland and England.
The decision comes after Sooryavanshi earned a historic call-up to the senior national squad following an extraordinary IPL 2026 campaign, where he captured the Orange Cap after amassing nearly 800 runs. His sensational performances made him the youngest-ever male cricketer to be selected for an Indian senior team, creating excitement across the cricketing world.

Explaining the reasoning behind the board’s exceptional move, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that the teenager is entering an environment filled entirely with adults, making family support crucial.
According to Saikia, it is extremely rare for a player as young as 15 to become part of a senior international squad. He pointed out that after cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted for India as a teenager, Indian cricket has once again witnessed a player reaching the national stage at such a tender age.
The BCCI believes allowing his parents to travel with him will help him settle comfortably while reducing the challenges that naturally arise when a school-going youngster joins a professional senior setup.

Currently representing India A in a one-day tournament in Sri Lanka, Sooryavanshi is expected to join the senior squad soon before India’s two-match T20 series in Ireland.
Saikia compared the arrangement to school excursions, where children are typically accompanied by responsible adults. He noted that Vaibhav has only recently stepped out of school life and is still in a formative stage, making parental presence a practical and thoughtful decision.
The BCCI also praised his parents for supporting and nurturing a young cricketer who is viewed as a long-term asset for Indian cricket.
