US Military Seeks ‘Creative’ Ways to Pressure Iran… Internal Email Reveals Challenges in Trump’s Strategy: Report

An internal email from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has reportedly revealed growing concerns within the US military over how to increase pressure on Iran without triggering a wider regional conflict.

According to a report by CNN, a senior intelligence officer at CENTCOM circulated an unusual message last week requesting “creative and unconventional” ideas from military analysts across the command to “pressure and punish” Iran. The email, sent to a broad group of personnel, reportedly reflects an ongoing review of Washington’s strategy as military and diplomatic efforts continue to face significant challenges.

Internal Email Highlights Strategic Concerns

The report states that the email encouraged officials to think beyond traditional military responses, signalling that existing measures may not be delivering the desired outcome.

While confirming the command’s emphasis on innovation, CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Timothy Hawkins said the organisation has a long-standing culture of encouraging fresh ideas across all ranks.

He added that Admiral Brad Cooper regularly seeks input from personnel regardless of rank to improve operational planning and overall mission effectiveness.

Trump Reportedly Paused Further Strikes

The reported email came before President Donald Trump publicly warned of additional military action against Iran. However, according to the report, the administration later decided not to authorise fresh strikes after regional leaders, including Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, urged restraint and called for de-escalation.

In recent weeks, the US has conducted air operations aimed at limiting Iran’s military capabilities and reducing threats to international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Despite those operations, diplomatic efforts to bring Tehran back to negotiations have reportedly shown little progress.

Nuclear Sites Still Under Consideration

The report further claims that US military planners have explored options for striking additional Iranian nuclear-related facilities, including the heavily fortified Pickaxe Mountain complex.

However, officials cited by CNN reportedly believe that even America’s most powerful conventional weapons may be insufficient to destroy deeply buried underground infrastructure. Military experts are said to have concluded that completely eliminating such facilities could require a ground operation—an escalation that the Trump administration has reportedly been reluctant to approve.

Conflict Remains Unresolved

The ongoing confrontation continues to centre on Iran’s strategic influence in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest energy shipping routes.

According to the report, some officials have discussed the possibility of limited, symbolic military strikes designed to demonstrate American strength without expanding into a prolonged conflict. Such operations, however, are not expected to resolve the broader geopolitical dispute or permanently address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.

As tensions remain high, the reported internal discussions suggest that both military and political leaders in Washington are weighing increasingly complex choices, balancing pressure on Iran with the risk of a broader regional escalation.
