In a rare moment of relief for consumers, the average price of gasoline in the United States has dropped below the $4 mark for the first time since March, driven by easing global oil prices following developments linked to the Iran peace agreement and renewed energy flows through key shipping routes.

According to data from motor club AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $3.999 on Thursday. This marks the lowest level recorded since late March, shortly after the escalation of the Iran conflict began disrupting global energy markets.

The decline comes as optimism grows over a tentative diplomatic understanding between Washington and Tehran, which has allowed the resumption of oil shipments through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The reopening of this critical route has helped stabilize crude oil supply chains and ease pressure on global energy prices.

Despite the recent drop, fuel prices in the US remain significantly higher than pre-war levels. Analysts estimate that American drivers are still paying roughly $1 more per gallon compared to prices before the conflict began on February 28. On a yearly basis, gasoline remains about 25% more expensive, continuing to strain household budgets across the country.

Economists note that while the downward trend is encouraging, the broader economic impact of the conflict is still being felt. Many families have been forced to adjust spending patterns, reduce discretionary travel, and rework monthly budgets due to sustained fuel inflation over the past several months.

Market experts say the latest dip reflects growing confidence among traders that energy supply chains are stabilizing, but caution that prices could remain volatile depending on the durability of the US–Iran diplomatic process.

For now, the drop below $4 offers a symbolic and psychological relief point for American consumers—signalling that easing geopolitical tensions are beginning to reflect at the pump.
