Kunchacko Boban‘s latest Malayalam crime thriller Unmadham has crossed the ₹1 crore gross milestone at the box office within two days of its theatrical release. The film, directed by Kiran Das and written by Shahi Kabir, released in cinemas on Friday and has received mixed reactions from critics and audiences.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated ₹70 lakh net on its opening day. On Saturday, it added another ₹17 lakh net in early estimates, taking its overall gross box office collection to around ₹1.01 crore so far.
While the opening numbers are modest, the makers will be hoping for stronger footfall over the weekend through positive word-of-mouth.
Kunchacko Boban reunites with Shahi Kabir
Unmadham marks another collaboration between Kunchacko Boban and acclaimed writer Shahi Kabir, who previously worked together on Nayattu (2021) and Officer on Duty (2025).
Interestingly, Boban once again steps into the role of a police officer—a character type that has earned him praise in recent years.

A psychological crime thriller with hidden secrets
The film follows a police officer haunted by a troubled past who begins investigating an unresolved case.
As the investigation progresses, long-buried secrets start coming to light, forcing him to confront painful truths that challenge both his beliefs and his personal life.
The film’s tagline, “Every buried truth has a way of finding its voice,” reflects the psychological and emotional themes explored throughout the story.
Strong supporting cast and technical team
Alongside Kunchacko Boban, the film stars Lijomol Jose, Shyna Radhakrishnan, Kiran Peethambaran, and Kottayam Nazeer in key roles.
The movie also marks the first on-screen collaboration between Kunchacko Boban and Lijomol Jose.
On the technical front, Mujeeb Majeed has composed the film’s music, while Arjun Sethu handled cinematography. Editing duties were shared by Kiran Das and Jithin John, with Dileep Nath serving as the production designer.
Mixed reviews after release
Although the film has received mixed reviews overall, critics have praised its performances and atmospheric storytelling.
Reviewers particularly highlighted director Kiran Das‘ confident debut, noting the film’s ability to sustain suspense through much of its runtime and its visually striking dream sequences, even if some portions feel prolonged.
