Actor John Abraham, who co-owns NorthEast United FC, has already enjoyed success in the sport, with the club winning the previous two editions of the Durand Cup.

Tiger’s involvement is expected to bring additional attention to one of India’s most historic football competitions.

About the Durand Cup

The Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia and the third-oldest football competition in the world. Established in 1888 in Shimla by Sir Mortimer Durand, the tournament originally served as a recreational competition for British troops before evolving into one of India’s most prestigious football championships.

Today, it features clubs from the Indian Super League (ISL), teams from the I-League, and armed forces sides. The competition begins with a round-robin group stage, after which the top-performing teams advance to the knockout rounds before the eventual champion is crowned.

If Tiger Shroff makes his anticipated debut, it would be a memorable moment not only for the actor but also for Indian football, bringing fresh attention to the country’s oldest and most celebrated tournament.
