Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ Crosses ₹200 Crore Pre-Release, But Advance Bookings Tell a Different Story

Suriya is heading into the release of Vishwanath And Sons with plenty of business already secured behind the scenes. The upcoming film has reportedly generated a pre-release business of more than Rs 200 crore, setting up a sizeable theatrical target even before audiences get a chance to watch it.

However, while the film’s pre-release valuation looks impressive, its advance bookings in Tamil Nadu have reportedly started on a more measured note.

According to Sacnilk, Vishwanath And Sons has so far recorded approximately Rs 7.23 crore in advance bookings in Tamil Nadu. With the film scheduled to release on August 14, the final pace of ticket sales and the response in the last few hours before release could have a major impact on its opening-day numbers.

Suriya’s recent success raises expectations

The expectations surrounding Vishwanath And Sons are partly linked to Suriya’s recent box-office performance.

His previous release, Karuppu, reportedly performed strongly at the worldwide box office and crossed the Rs 300 crore mark. That success has improved the actor’s market position and naturally raised expectations for his next theatrical outing.

Against that backdrop, the current advance-booking figure may appear slightly underwhelming to some trade observers. However, advance sales can accelerate significantly closer to release, particularly for films with strong family appeal.

The real test will begin once the film reaches theatres and audience word of mouth starts influencing occupancy.

Film reportedly locks Rs 215 crore pre-release business

The reported pre-release valuation of Vishwanath And Sons stands at around Rs 215 crore, covering both theatrical and non-theatrical revenue streams.

As per the reported breakdown, Tamil Nadu theatrical rights are valued at approximately Rs 45 crore, while the Telugu states have contributed around Rs 20 crore. Karnataka is reportedly valued at Rs 5 crore, with another Rs 5 crore coming from the rest of India.

The overseas theatrical rights are reportedly worth around Rs 15 crore, taking the film’s total theatrical business to approximately Rs 90 crore.

The non-theatrical side reportedly contributes another Rs 125 crore, including OTT, satellite and music rights.

With such a sizeable investment riding on its theatrical performance, the film reportedly needs to achieve around Rs 175 crore worldwide gross for its theatrical side to emerge as a clean hit.

Can advance bookings pick up before August 14?

The next 24 hours could prove crucial for Vishwanath And Sons.

The availability of screens, show counts and competition from other releases will play an important role in determining the film’s opening. A strong surge in advance bookings could encourage exhibitors to add shows at major centres, particularly if early audience interest translates into higher occupancy.

For now, the film’s booking numbers indicate that there is still work to do before the release-day momentum becomes clear.

What to expect from Vishwanath And Sons

Directed by Venky Atluri, Vishwanath And Sons stars Suriya alongside Mamitha Baiju, with Radhika and other prominent actors playing important roles.

The music has been composed by GV Prakash Kumar.

Unlike a conventional action-heavy commercial entertainer, the film is expected to place greater emphasis on family relationships, emotions and entertainment. That could make audience word of mouth particularly important once the film opens.

With the film arriving in cinemas on August 14, the focus is now firmly on the opening day.

The pre-release business has already given Vishwanath And Sons a strong financial foundation, but the box office will ultimately depend on how audiences respond.

Rs 200 crore-plus in pre-release business may look impressive on paper. Now Suriya has to turn that confidence into packed theatres.
